Most of the time, more complicated cases would need more checks and verifications from agencies beyond USCIS. So, instead of sitting duck, I think it is a smart move to tackle simpler cases that could get processed right away first so that cases would not pile up to nose.

Is your 90 day number based on anything, or just suspicion that it's a more backlogged office?

A check of the forum threads for Dec '13 to Feb '14 shows five members processed at the NYC service center in that time. From the tables, the number of days between their biometric appointments and actual interviews (not just letter) were: 41, 43, 46, 87, and 112.

That suggests that our NYC predecessors this time last year had a mean wait time of 66 days.

I also don't agree that more "complicated" applications get put to one side in favor of "simpler" ones. More complicated ones definitionally take more time, but I think that's compounded by the frustration of the case officers. That would be very poor practice, as well as obviously not being very smart considering that they have to be processed anyway, and that the overall processing times are set by Congress.

You're absolutely correct on the second point. There is no evidence to support the idea that complicated cases are set aside so that officers can finish easier cases. Of course, officers work on multiple cases at the same time and so they will finish several more direct cases before they finish a complicated case, but that is only because complicated cases often require sending out requests for evidence or waiting for further background checks. It wouldn't make sense for an officer to sit around and do nothing while waiting for a reply to a request for evidence for a given application. If it was true that simpler cases are purposefully favored over more complicated cases, then those of us applying based on the five-year rule would be naturalized at a much faster rate than those applying based on the three-year rule, and if you look at the monthly tracking tables, the numbers just don't support that.

if you look back to thread from October and November 2014, cases filed in ny took between 78-84 days to go from in-line to scheduled. Also, the processing time on the new york office is still June 1, 2014. (8 months behind)

when you average it all out and take some holiday into account, it is about a 90 day wait give or take.

Every case is different, some people need to be close to their 3 years or 5 years anniversary in order to receive an interview appointment.

some case depend on how fast their local office handle this.

if any case is "complicated" it would just take a time for the process , this involve the need of more document.

at this point there is not exact formula will could used to know what case come first or go out first , it all depend on the officer, as that little "GOD" they chose how process their pile of file and they know which one has to be process fast and when to move forward.

You are saying the same points I made earlier. I did not say simpler cases would get processed first over complicated cases. It is just that complicated cases most of the time would require checks and verifications from agencies outside of USCIS and obviously USCIS has no control over when this would be finished. Thus, instead of sitting duck and biting nails, simpler cases would be slotted in and processed first while waiting. 5-year rule cases do get priority over 3-year rule ones. I notice often time they get interviews first, but the difference is very slight.

I think it also depends on the case. Say, straight-forward, no complications cases would get processed first as they are easily processed. This way, it will make room for complicated and new cases. I don't think they process cases on first come first serve basis. I believe they still look at cases on time received but I bet they would move on to the next case if the prior case is too complicated. That is why we see widely different timelines.

I must have misunderstood what you wrote in your first post; "they would move on to the next case if the prior case is too complicated".

I agree that they work multiple cases in parallel and some move faster than others. However, they spend a significant amount of time reviewing complicated applications and that slows down straight-forward applications.

I definitely interpreted it the same way as JimmyHou. "[T]hey would move on to the next case if the prior case is too complicated" sounded like you were saying that case officers picked and chose what cases to process based on their simplicity. Of course while one difficult case is pending they work on new ones! Was anyone suggesting that case officers take one application at a time and sit around playing Candy Crush while they wait for checks to come back?!

Sounds like we all agree :-)

And of course, we're all guessing to pass the time on here!

I had my interview this past Monday. It was super easy and only took 10 minutes from the moment I met the interviewer. He quickly went through my application and asked 6 questions

How many amendments does the Constitution have?

Who makes federal laws?

What is the name of the VP of the US now?

What is the highest court in the US ?

(I forgot the other two)

My oath ceremony has been scheduled according to USCIS website but I haven't received the letter yet. Maybe today or tomorrow.
