N-400 December 2014 Filers

Today I had my naturalization interview. Everything went smoothly. The interview was scheduled for 8.50 am, I was called by the officer around 9 am.

Gave the green card and my driver's license to the officer for the review.

I was asked to read the first line from a paper and the sentence was: 'Where is the White House?'

I was asked to write another sentence on another peace of paper, stating 'Freedom of speech is the first right.'

My interview questions were:

What is an amendment?

What do we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance?

What is the supreme law of the land?

Who signs the bills to become laws?

Who did the United States fight in World War II?

What is the capital of your state?

Since I have answered all of those questions correctly the officer did not continue to ask me another questions. After this one I had to stand up and rise my right hand to give an oath that I will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The officer look thru my N-400 application and asked me the questions from there. I was also asked to print out my name, give the signature underneath and sign both photos (the front side) I have attached with the application. At the end, I have signed the application and the officer congratulated me and giving me the Naturalization Interview Results form marked with those:

• You passed the tests of English and U.S. history and government.

• Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval. At this time, it appears that you have established your eligibility for naturalization. If final approval is granted, you will be notified when and where to report for the Oath Ceremony.

The officer said the USCIS has a right to make a determination on my application within 120 days of the days of my examination. Officer has also mentioned most probably I could expect the notice to be mailed within 30 days.

On the way out, I was given the additional reading materials, two booklets one is The Citizen's Almanac and the other one is The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

I just wanted to write down my totally positive experience on the interview. Hope will get this oath notice soon. Will keep you updated.

Thanks huy_le! I really wasn't expecting the update for about 3-4 more weeks judging from where the other filers from LA in previous months currently are. But its definitely a welcome surprise. Hopefully this translates to good news for everyone in this December Filers group!

"On February 10, 2015, we started the interview scheduling process for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization , Receipt Number NBC*00xxxxxx. We will send you an interview notice...."

Thank you. The officer review the whole application in front of me, asking me questions from those one by one. It goes very quickly since you are familiar with the answers already given in the application itself. The officer did not ask for the review of any related documents that are necessary to bring for the interview. Nothing different from the questions given in the form. If there are some changes, you should notify the officer about those. For example, while I was filling out the application in December at that time I did not have a job...In a meantime I started working in January so I gave the officer details about the employer and position I obtain. Have noticed that the officer used computer,most probably to check online is there anything similar or related to my story (giving her name and location of my employer) so she did not ask any further questions regarding those later on.

All of that process seems so unfair sometimes! Why some offices are faster than other, why some people get their interview date so fast as some others are waiting ... forever.

It seem it could be so simple. We are permanent resident, ok, if we are clear from any issues, why it should take that long? We actually do pay for it.

And some people will say, what's the matter, no hurry, your have your GC...

Yes I do, but, my dad passed away in November and now my Mom is all alone... I want her to come live with me, and knowing that the whole process, with me becoming a citizen, then applying for her... if we are lucky she'll be with at the same time next year... if only she could visit while I do her I-130...

Just received the following email notice. My question is does this mean I'm already scheduled or could I also have just been placed in line? The 2nd paragraph seems to suggest the latter. If the former, why was I never in line?
