Can I join Army on CPR if I am divorced?

Had 97 on ASVAB waiting to lose some weight and divorce is imminent. Wanted to go to Airforce but they asked for 10 year card, not sure about ARMY. Kindly please share if anyone divorced while on CPR can join ARMY reserve?

If you're still here legally divorce has no impact in your live here...

I am currently in the process of enlisting and my recruiter told me last week that it has been put down in order to join the US Army (I can't speak for any other branch) you can join as a CPR or a LPR only if you have 60 days left on your residency before your ship date and a divorce will not effect your eligibility, I don't know if this is being posted too late but I do hope it helps someone :)

That's so weird... I've never heard of that. I've heard you need to have at least 180 days left but not 60. But again that's what i know from the Marines.

My recruiter told me they can enlist me right now but then, they wont ship me out to bootcamp until I get the GC. So i'm just waiting for my biometrics letter to continue with the process.

Yeah I think every branch is slightly different, the Marines is a good way to go! Kudos to you.. I don't think I would want to go through marine boot camp..im dreading BCT enough as it is! I hope you get your green card soon! Are you shooting straight for citizenship?

Yea, and thank you! Back to you! I'm sure you'll do well in BCT.

They offered citizenship when graduating Bootcamp and since they do all the paperwork and I don't have to pay for it, yea, I'm going for it, it saves us $$ and dealing with USCIS again.

well thanks, and yeah same here, my recruiter warned me though that not everyone gains their citizenship in boot camp sometimes it happens in AIT or at your first duty station. I think the longest he said he's seen it take is about 6 months after getting to the first duty station though so Either way its still faster and cheaper and a wonderful service that they offer to the troops!

Pretty much because they don't want you shooting someone when you're not a USC and they want your allegiance to the USA not another country. It's not unselfish. ;) Enlisted get a lot of benefits, but you're essentially owned by the government. You're on call 24/7.

Make sure you get whatever you need written into your recruitment. They used to supply uniforms and fatigues but lately that's been going down and enlisted have to buy their own gear. Also remember if you don't like your first job, you can change it after 1 year. Try to get into a field that is useful outside the military too if you can.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  - Dr. Seuss

Also be aware that your job options will be somewhat limited in the military, based on which jobs require a secret clearance or not. In the Air Force there is a higher percentage of jobs that require a secret clearance than other branches of the military. While my wife had her 10 year green card already, she was only able to apply for job fields that did not require a clearance. You can only get a secret clearance as a U.S. citizen.

When my wife finishes nursing school though she plans on getting her commission and changing to the medical field as a nurse in the military. She became a citizen in 2013.

it depends on your BCT area. i will go BCT ft jackson and I heard that they will ask ppl who need to file N-400 while applicant stays in reception. so... most of my friend filled out all paperworks over there. and while they were getting basic training then they received U.S. citizenship before bct finished... fort sil?(idk if its correct or not) if you go there they want you fill out all paperworks again and it will take so long time to get it until finish AIT or.. before AIT done..

it depends on.... and you may have i-551 stamp on your passport... good luck with it.. hope you can join any branch that you want..:)

i will be ship out may 26th.. I have my 10 yrs green card...and while I was pending case I was trying to give a shot for joining the army with i-551 stamp too...:/ but before you go to bct you may have to get green card as well...

if you didn't file divorce... and if your green card expire date is gna be over 2015 nov ( or dec) go talk to recruiter and try to process

you should go BCT before 6 months left ( expired date)

if you are going to divorce you need to wait until you get divorce decree.

so.. if you didn't file divorce then.. talk to your husband.

you can't go Airforce with 2 yrs green card.

I was not aware that you can get naturalized right after enlisting in the military despite just being on a conditional green card.

For whatever reason i assumed that you had to wait 3 years before getting citizenship. I am looking at joining the army, naturally I would like to go airborne, go through RASP if possible but know it is not a possibility without citizenship.

I am confused.

That's right, you'll be able to become a citizen through the military.

When you sign up with the army, the contract that you'll sign will be for a job that doesn't require a security clearance, since can only be obtained once you're a citizen.

You need to contact a recruiter and ask if once you're in you're able to volunteer for Ranger school or how does that process work.

Don't get too confused, if you speak with a recruiter that tells you you can only join with a 10 year green card, show them this:
