I didn't say you shouldn't pay attention, but obviously when gas goes back to $4+/gallon - as it will eventually - you will not sell your truck because you can no longer afford it.

Anyone who buys a gas guzzler couldn't care less about the price of gas.

I will buy gas when it's $7 a gallon because I prefer to drive over walking. Won't have much choice.

But I also realize that buying a new car because it gets better gas mileage takes a LONG time before I realize the cost benefit...

I agree with you on that one. When you buy a new car you must factor in the swing in the price of oil. If you can't affort a $1-2 swing in the price at the pump you need to consider another model. For most, getting a new car every year or two is not a sensible financial option. Which brings me to my initial idea: It would be ludicrous to believe people will go back to buying gas guzzlers because of a temporary fall in the price of oil.

That's an incorrect statement, IMHO. If you can afford a gas guzzler, the price of gas is the least of your concerns.

One of my daily drivers is a mean spirited 302CID Mustang GT. Many people ask me what gas mileage I get with it and my answer is always the same: Don't know. Don't care.

The only people concerned with the price of gas are those who can't afford the cars they drive anyway, regardless of the cost of gas.

Harly a guzzler at 20 avg mpg
