Hello from an American in Canada!

Just joined this site a few days ago and already Ive found so much info.. My name is Kimm (Kimmbo) and I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada.. My husband Barry is the Canadian in our house..We met online 7 years ago...

I've already gone through the Canadian Immigration process (moved here 5 years ago), now we are wanting to move to the US together...I think we have all the paperwork gathered to get the process going.. still need to get pictures taken...

Just wondering if there are more Canadian/American couples here who lived together in Canada and then Immigrated to the US together...

Im making my way around the forums, trying to soak in as much info as possible.. so Im sure I will see alot of you around here.. and Im sure I will have a few more questions before we send anything in...

I am the Canadian citizen, married to an American, living in the U.S., wanting to immigrate to Canada in a few years when we retire. I am just now starting to gather information on the Canadian immigration process.

I'm really curious about what it was like to go through the Canadian Immigration process. Most of us here are doing the opposite. Now that I am going through US Immigration, I have been wondering more about the process and what it is like for people Immigrating to Canada.

In answer to your original post, my husband and I did live together in Canada before. However, my husband (the USC) did not apply for Canadian residency/citizenship. Instead I moved to the USA (where I am a permanent resident now and will apply for American Citizenship later)

I did go through the Canadian immigration system as a child though, so I guess I did go through the Canadian immigration process before. However, going through the immigration process as a child is different from going through the immigration process as an adult.

Lol..I guess I've been through too much immigration (believe me, twice in a lifetime is more than enough). I just need to settle down here in the USA....

Thank you everyone for welcoming me! This site has been so helpful! We are getting ready to mail off our I-130 this week...

This is my checklist, if Ive forgotten anything please let me know...I am the USC and my husband Canadian.

$190 US (Money Order)

Form I-130 (filled out by me/USC)

Form G-325 (4 pages from me, 4 from my husband)

Passport pics (2x2) 1 of each of us...names on back

copy of my birth certificate (front and back)

copy of his birth certificate (front and back)

copy of our marriage certificate

copy of his divorce certificate

2 copies of everything we are sending in..

forgot to mention about the Canadian Immigration Process for those of you that asked.. alot has changed since I applied in 2002 so Im not quite up to date on the current process..but there are alot of similarities with the two processes.. the cost however seems to be more for the Canadian one..

This is a breakdown of my CANADIAN Immigration Process, it was 8 months from start to finish....stressful but not horrible..LOL

Jan 19th 2002 - Got fingerprints done (2 sets $30 CAD)

Jan 24th 2002 - Got money orders $18( US) FBI Clearance, $15 (US) State of Nevada Clearance)

Feb 13th 2002 - Sent for FBI and State clearances ($20 Xpress post

CAD)

March 7th 2002 - Medical Exam ($160 CAD)

March 12th 2002 - Received FBI clearance

April 9th 2002 - Received Nevada clearance

April 17th 2002 - Sent completed Application & Work Authorization

Application ($650 CAD)($20 Xpress Post CAD)

April 19th 2002 - CIC Received Application

May 7th 2002 - Processing Started

June 7th 2002 - Sent Visitor Extension ($18 CAD)

June 10th 2002 - CIC received VE app

Aug 12th 2002 - Received Visitor Extension (record) 6 months

December 9th 2002 PR Visa Received (received it before AIP)

December 12th 2002 Approval to Sponsor/AIP Received

December 23rd 2002 Interview / Paid Right of Landing Fee ($975 CAD)

January 17th 2003 PR Card Received

also had to send in 1 yr of pay stubs from my husbands work, and 5 years of tax info..
