My husband is returning to the from a 2 month trip to Egypt. He has his EAD/AP Card, and I am just wanting to make sure I have all the needed information (which I think will be just have the card and passport to enter); however, the airlines in Cairo gave him a hard time when he originally entered the US because they didn't understand how the K-1 Visa worked. After a bit of conversation with a lot of calls, they finally allowed him to board. I'm trying to avoid the same kind of issues we had before.

My Thoughts:

  • The airlines sent an email asking for ESTA to be filled out, but he doesn't need to do that because the EAD/AP card is like a green card and not part of any ESTA requirements. I read somewhere on here that someone had trouble with not filling out the ESTA with their AP card, so the airlines finally called the CBP in the US and confirmed that indeed there was no need to fill out additional paperwork.
  • When my husband re-enters, he should ask the people directing the incoming passengers if he should go to the Permanent Resident line or Visitors line. According to a post here, the answer can differ according to the person directing the lines of immigrants.
  • We should prepare for secondary inspection and questioning (POE Detroit) and at least 3 hours should be provided between entry and his next flight to our home. This should provide enough time for all of those parts of reentry.

If that is all that is needed, it seems like it should be pretty seamless. Does anyone else have any special advice for someone entering the US from Cairo using Advanced Parole?

Thanks for the help!

I would get in touch with the airline and get something in writing from them to show to their gate people that the AP allows your husband to travel to the US and be allowed entry. I have heard too many stories where the gate people decide that the AP is not valid for entry into the US and the traveller either misses their flight or almost misses it, but either way the whole experience is very stressful.

Good luck,

Dave
