I agree with what Carrie suggested. When I got here my Finace showed me around our neighborhood, where I could find the gym, yoga, cheap gorceries, and a transit map with a transit card, so I could start to learn about my new home. It's a huge adjustment and that is just a nice way to ease into the transition.

We have adopted the shoes-at-the-door custom, with a little rug pulled off to the side. I also have asked my friends to stop saying "A-BOOT" after he says about, and then following with "isn't that cuuuuute? how he says aboooot?" I don't know that it bugs him much, but being singled out in conversation is silly. I also got us a shared cell phone plan but added $4 per month to his phone to get a discount on his calls to Canada. Hmmm, let's see. OH if there is hockey on, I never ever say "Oh god, not more hockey!" LOL and sometimes if he's working late I'll even tivo a game for him. Now if I could only find Poutine around here.....

Now that I've discovered them, I am deeply going to miss mint Aerobars, chocolate Smarties and Fuzzy Peaches when we move back to the states. Man, maybe i shouldn't eat so much junk food :D I will also miss East Side Marios and Boston Pizza (which are starting to come into the US, but they just aren't the same). :'(

LOL LOL LOL

Get used to it, sunshine. You can't get lots of Canadian yummies down here. Oh, and watch out for stuff that LOOKS the same... it ain't. Try eating some wheat thins or a chocolate bar... ewwwwwww. Even Campbell's soup is different!

That's why there is this wonderful website called Canadian Favourites They're absolutely brilliant. But a bit slow with shipping at Christmas time now that simply Everybody knows about them. Order around (US) Thanksgiving and you might have it for Christmas ;)

I usually order 2ce a year from there, Shreddies, Tetley tea bags, some Laura Secord chocolates maybe, Kraft Dinner, Bits n Bites for my hubby who is addicted to them, and they now have Campbell's soups. I ordered 6 cans of Tomato because I don't like the stuff down here, and a couple boxes of KD.

And for any Canucks of Brit descent, there's The British Pantry I got some scones, and clotted cream and haggis from them. Very yum!

Or if you're near a World Market you can shop there for stuff that we'd be used to having in our Canadian grocery stores, but not necessarily here in US stores. Especially if you're like me who moved from a *very* multi-cultural area to a completely white bread town. Complete with high fructose corn syrup and all those lovely preservatives that somehow make the bread last a month open on the counter without going stale or green

Well I knew about the chocolate thing.. and the chip thing, and most of the "healthier" choice stuff, and the KD thing, and the soup thing.. but I honestly thought something so sacred as the Fuzzy Peach would not be denied at the US boarder. I think people should start marching in protest. That is an atrocity! :) hee hee

Holy ####### I went there and they're selling a bag of Ketchup chips for $2.59 or something. So I went to order 2 bags, no problem. Chips come out to $5 something total, but then they charge $18 shipping?!? That's ridicilous, $22 total for 2 bags? I can get my parents to send me 2 bags for next to nothing. What a rip off..

Actually my friend here a few years ago got some ketchup chips at a Walmart here, guess they were trying them out to see if it would sell. No one liked them, but he got me a few bags, so they are around, you just really have to look for them now...

That site was so cool! I never realized how many things we had that the US doesn't. But I have to say I would gladly trade a bag of ketchup or all dressed chips and aero's for a crawfish/crab/shrimp boil. YUM!

I remember one of the first times my fiance was with me in the candy aisle in the US... he said he had a taste for smarties. I went and picked up a bag of OUR smarties, you know those tart fruity little powdery candy bits? Needless to say the US smarties were definitely not what he was looking for. When he described his smarties, they just sounded like M&Ms to me... :pop:

Well, I just surprised myself. I have lamented my inability to find crumpets here in the States. I brought back 2 packages from Canada at Christmas, but of course, they are long gone. I just checked the Whole Foods and the World Foods sites but they don't carry them. I did a google search and found a number of suppliers here in the States, although most of them are exorbitant - then I noticed the amazon.com link so I checked - I can buy a dozen authentic English crumpets for the same price at the Canadian food link from here for 8! And I don't have to pay the high shipping fee:-). So that takes care of that. With that in mind I checked to see if amazon.com carries ketchup chips - and they do! Here is the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Herrs-Ketchup-Potato...5/dp/B0005XO2NS

Don't know how they will compare to what you buy in Canada as I personally don't care for them, but hey! it may be alright - and definitely a lot cheaper.

Now if I could just figure out some way to get Ontario wines down here to Texas. Since every bloody state sets its own rules for what they import and don't, wouldn't you know I'd end up in a state that won't import Ontario wine? When I whine about it, people tell me to buy American Niagara region wine. It's not the same!!
