Hi ya'll!

Just curious how long did it take everyone to get a job in the US? Was the job in your field? Was it same level as you on in your own home, a promotion or demotion? Thanks! And good luck everyone!

Just under 3 months for me although I was offered work sooner that had a really long commute so couldn't do it. It was in a different field to what I was doing in the UK but at a similar level I guess.

About 4 months after I got my GC. It's the same field/industry as with my old job, and I think it's just about the same job level as my previous job back in my country. The job hunting and going to a number of different interviews were hard, but I was glad I got offered the job I now have.

I'm not an accountant, but I am fairly certain you will have to be accredited in the state you wish to work. Or at least at a federal level. Definitely something to look up, as that will add time on. Once again, I wish to repeat, I AM NOT AN ACCOUNTANT hahaha

Also, I am flying out at the start of December on a K-1, but I am fortunate that one of Chelsea's family friends is going to help me with the job. I am an Economist by trade, having done a lot of analytical and policy work in my time.

Hi, I am married with US citizen, I have my GC applying for the citizenship, 3years in USA and I can't find any job here related to my profession (administrative/accounting). It is taking approx. 9 months, maybe it can be difficult depending on what state are you. I have tried to rebuild my resume but no job yet.

Four years and no job yet. Well actually I got one in retail and stuck around for 18 months. I quit mostly because of the pay, $8 bucks an hour, no benefits and my schedule is too irregular.Would have preferred if I was given a Monday to Sunday 10 hour per day schedule rather than 3 days straight this week then 4 days straight next week. I really do not need days off, all I wish is a Sunday off.

What i do now is sell stuff on eBay while waiting for results of various applications I sent. EBaying is a lot better than 8 bucks an hour. Makes me think whether the decision to move here in the US is good.

Here is the book that I wrote about my eBay selling experience: http://www.phenomenaljulia.com/

You've probably already done this 3 years in, but my background is also finance and admin and I wasn't getting anywhere applying on my own. It might be worth signing up with your local Accountemps and Officeteam location - they do a lot of temp work and contract-to-hire but contracts is better than nothing, right?
