Hello,

After months of waiting for a status update we received our interview appointment notice! There is a very long list of items to bring to the interview.

I have some questions regarding the things to bring.

There is a line asking for birth certificates of all children of the marriage ( there are none ) , and custody papers for your children and your spouse's children not living with you. My wife is from Thailand and her son still lives there with her family. There are no custody papers for that arrangement. What do I need to do if anything for this item?

And then the next question would be regarding our evidence of proof of relationship.

I already owned my house before we got married, so she is not on the mortgage. I added her to some of the utilities, but the billing statements only list my name on the envelope because that is how their system works. She is not on the car insurance because she doesn't drive, and as of today, doesn't seem too anxious to want to drive. We didn't do a formal wedding ceremony because I don't live around any family and of course her family isn't here so we just married ourselves ( Colorado allows this ) and registered the marriage at the court house. So, is that a big deal? We have taken several trips to visit my family in the last 9 months, and we have photos from all of those trips. We also bought some land together. Just wondering how to lay all of this out so it is clear to the interviewer that we have a legit relationship, live together, and are quite happy.

Thanks...

I can speak to this a bit. We just went through our AOS interview 31Oct in Yakima Wa. This was a very easy experience. Since you are recently married they are not looking for alot. We we out of our interview in about 15 min. All they did was walk through the file asking for answers to the questions you answered on the form Looked at the 864 said I made enough, Asked about wedding We did a very small one ( Did not ask to see pictures.)

All in all it was a very easy interview. No major issues cropped up LIke I said in and out of interview in about 15 min,

Each office is different and if they see things in your file that they question you could be in for more of an interview.

Just bring all of your documents laid out so that you can find them. You may or may not need them. I brought all the paper work from the beginning of the process and we did not need any of it. All of the paperwork asked for in the letter was brought and the only things they asked for were my wifes birth certificate and the marriage license

Let me know if you have further questions.

Others may have things to add.

The list is generic so what doesn't apply isn't needed.

For proof of relationship you can only show what you have. She isn't needed on the car insurance for example because the insurance is for the car not the person driving it.

You may have to explain how you married yourselves but a marriage certificate is all anyone needs.

Your case file will be there at the meeting so no need to copy what they have. Just bring anything you may think helps. I doubt they will ask for photos. Her name on a deed would be good.

Just relax and let the officer ask the few questions. They work off a check list. You should have no problem.
