Got the RFE today, they didn't accept my international birth certificate, they want a translation. I'm so relieved it's not something more complicated! :)

HI all, this is my first post.

I'm pretty much exactly the same as you, C&A. I'm adjusting from an overstayed visitors visa in Brooklyn NY. I mailed all 3 forms on 11/18 and got the return receipt on 11/21 with a received date on the 11/20. Got NOA1 email/text notification on 11/28 and pysical papers in hand on 12/05 followed by biometrics appointment letter on 12/8 with an appointment on the 12/15. No news and no updates on the website since then, but it's christmas now. Does anyone have any idea when will they resume processing after the new year and when should I expect my EAD to be processed, specifically?

Thanks people!

Got mine today. They need a certified copy of marriage license.

Hey -- Did you mean Marriage Certificate? Or Marriage License? In my understanding, a marriage license is what you get when you register your intent to get married. And then you wait for three days to be eligible to get married. The Justice of Peace (or Minister) then officiates the wedding, signs the marriage license and sends it to the twon hall, who then issue the marriage certificate. Once we have the marriage certificate, the marriage license is of no use. This is my understanding of it. I sent in an original of the marriage CERTIFICATE only. I did not send my marriage LICENSE at all.

Can you please clarify if you sent your certificate or license? Thanks.

The RFE was for a certified copy of marriage certificate. It specified that the copy should be issued by a government authority. When I went to the city hall to get a certified copy of the certificate, I explained to them what it was for and they told me that USCIS requires a certified copy of the marriage license and marriage certificate for marriages in Pennsylvania. I had sent in a copy of the marriage certificate and a copy of the receipt for marriage license in the original package and got the RFE. Hope this helps.

OK. Thanks for the prompt reply.

I sent in the original marriage certificate. I asked them for 4 of them at the time of marriage. I had to pay extra for them, but got 4 originals in return. And sent one of them off with the AoS application. I hope USCIS doesn't make fuss.

I don't see anything wrong with that. Most people get accepted and some get an RFE. This is what I have read from other posters. Good luck!

My I-485 Petition Got Approved !!!

I just wanted to share the good news and provide some insight for those of you who are still waiting.

I am a November filer and to my surprise, my I-485 petition has already been approved!

To assist you in putting this post into context, I think it will important for you to keep in mind that my petition was based on a grant of asylum more than a year a go and my application was sent to the Texas Service Center (TSC).

Please see my timeline below:

11/6 - Sent petition to TSC via regular mail

11/12 - Online status changed to received on USCIS website. Received NOA and Biometrics appointment shortly after on 11/24.

12/5- Completed biomerics per instructions contained in the biometrics letter indicated above.

12/6 to 12/28 - Online status showed fingerprint fee accepted.

12/29 - Online status miraculously changed to " we registered your permanent resident status and mailed welcome letter. Later logged in to my USCIS account to find a smaller notation that my card was ordered.

I was in for the long hall but I am really surprised that my application was approved and card ordered in less than 2 months - counting from the day I mailed off my application.

Good luck to those still waiting, I hope you find my post helpful.

Congrats asylee88!

Went to my biometrics appointment this morning, they sent me to the manager's office because I didn't bring my marriage certificate (it wasn't on the list :( )

Anyway, my AOS papers are in my married name while my passport is in my maiden name so they asked for my marriage certificate and since I didn't have it with me, they sent me to the manager's office. I waited for about 45 minutes or so and then was called to come inside. The manager lady was really nice and friendly. She was surprised that my name on their file was still my maiden name, but she figured everything out and did me a favor - my appointment letter only listed I-485 and EAD for fingerprinting and since I brought all 3 NOAs with me she approved biometrics for AP too and told me to just ignore the official appointment letter when I receive it in the mail.

I will be sending RFE response today too so today is kind of a big day for me :)

I Received an rfe on my EAD for having two different middle names on my aos application and on my birth certificate on the 22nd of last month, the name on my aos is also the same as the one on my passport and they are requesting prove of name change. So if u have different names on Birth certificate and on aos then u might want to get this document available in case they send u an rfe. My rfe was sent after 70 days. Edited by dassy004

It didn't say anything about them not being happy with what you provided in response to the first RFE? It's kind of weird that they sent you the same RFE again :/ What does the case status online say? Updated to another RFE?
