Green card in hand

Hi guys,

I want to thank everyone that helped me during the process!!!! I received my green card today!!! yay!! I had my interview last week (Oct 30) and approved right away...

I filed my AOS package back on August 19th, so a little under 2 months and 20 days from beginning to end... very exited to be done with the process.

One last question... I was a student prior to the adjustment of status, and I had my conditional social security card... do I need to visit my local office to have it replaced?

Hi & congrats on getting your G/C as for your SSC yes you will need to go & have your status up dated on there system.

If you already have a social security card with the endorsement "Valid for work only with USCIS authorisation" then you do not need to go and get it replaced. You can do so, and it will remove the annotation, but your "authorisation" is your green card, so you are under no compulsion to replace it.

The only time you must update your records with the SSA is after you become a US citizen.

It generally takes close to 90 days just to get EAD/AP card, with Green Card following within the next 6 - 12 months.

Just recently someone posted they got letter saying due to backlog their case would be delayed by 6 months.

Something sounds odd here.

AoS from non-K visas generally takes ~2 - 4 months, depending on the backlog of the local office to schedule the mandatory interview.

AoS from a K visa can be shorter if there is an interview (same principle as above), but longer if there is no interview.

did you work under your restricted SSN? if you did, did you disclose it on your 485 and 325a? did employment question come up during the interview?

Congratulations! Yes, ours was super quick too at the time (2 months total). Now, cannot say this for the ROC...both centers are super backlogged right now. Regarding your SSC, no, you do not need to have that changed, but if you want to, you can, just as others said so. Again, congratulations!

Btw, I am just looking at your timeline, it seems we almost submitted our AOS exactly the same time with a 2 year difference. That's kindda cool.

I did use my SSN as I was employed at my university... and I believe I did mention that on i-485... but nothing related to employment was asked during the interview... which lasted about 15 minutes. I was in and out in 30 min.

Pretty smooth process, but I did my homework before filing my AOS package... took me over 15 days to put it together...didn't want to have any RFEs..

Congratulations again...I thought I did my homework before too, but somehow I got a RFE on a birth certificate which I had already sent with my original paperwork. my husband has the same exact BS as mine issued by the district registrar, my friends who already have done AOS have the same BS issued by the same place as mine but for some reason they would not accept mine. I had to request for a new one. Just weird. I am glad I came as a student, made me go to school I will not regret it anyway. All the best in life.
