Need to vent about vaccination supplement

Grrrrrr....I just need to vent and share my frustration.....so bear with me :ranting:

I entered the country on a K-1 visa, and I am now trying to collect all the paperwork in order to file for AOS as soon as possible.

Knowing that I needed that vaccination supplement, I printed out the list of doctors closest to us. Well, the term "closest" is relative, the closest ones in this state are almost 2 hours away by car. But ok, not that big a deal, so I started calling around to find out who would be willing to fill out that form I693A for me.

The first ones I called, flat out refused. Responses ranged from "We don't do that here" to "She won't sign off on just the vaccinations if someone else has done the physical." That one lady acted as if it was my own fault for having a medical somewhere else and then wanting them to fill out the vacc. supplement. But they wouldn't have let me into the country without it, so what the heck should I have done....??

After I was almost ready to give up and scream, the last place I called put me through to the "triage nurse" (?) where I was told by a recording to leave a message and wait for them to call back. I am happy to report that they finally did call back, were very nice, and actually did agree to fill out the form. I can come in on Monday, show my paperwork, pay 67 $ and - hopefully- be on my merry way.

Why do they have to make it so difficult for us? Either USCIS should instruct the doctors to willingly fill out that stupid vaccination supplement, or USCIS should accept the papers we have. After all, if my vaccinations hadn't been ok at the time of my physical in Germany, I would not have received the K-1 visa and would not have been able to enter the country, right? Where's the logic in all this bureaucracy...??

I am sorry for whining, but I just had to get this off my chest.... :(

The good news is, if everything goes well, I will finally be able to file for AOS next week (providing the certified copies of the marriage certificates get here sometime as well.......we sent the certificate off on 2/27 and haven't received anything yet.)

Wishing everyone else less hassle, :D

Yes, that Supplement can sure cause some headaches..... and then, after getting one for my daughter, it wasn't even asked for. I had to voluntarily give it to the officer. When I gave it to her, she said.... Oh, I have that already in her file (meaning the Vaccination Worksheet, not the Vaccination Supplement). I wasn't going to argue, so I just gave her the Supplement being as I had paid $35.00 for it.

I didn't need the Supplement for my own AOS interview either, and hadn't bothered to get it. But, sometimes they ask for it, and sometimes they don't..... so it's better to be prepared, I guess.

And your comment about not being able to enter the US with your K-1 without having all your vaccinations..... that's not true..... you are allowed to finish your vaccinations once you arrive in the U.S. before you file for AOS.

Good luck in getting your AOS package out.

How very frustrating. A lot of the bureaucratic rigamarole and runaround can become exhausting, especially when so much of it looks to be overlap. I get to do it with immigration, and then we get to do it with a few student loans. If only I knew of a student loan forum as good as VJ!

Anyways. :) If you've been receiving a lot of flak from these places, give yourself some time to have a nice treat and don't give up hope. As you're in Alaska, it looks like, you're probably facing more difficulty in choices than those of us in the lower 48. They may be taking advantage of that. If nothing else, you can always try going in person.

I am sorry, but maybe that was true when you had the K-1 (or maybe it's Germany-specific, I don't know that).

In Germany, I was told by the USCIS physician in Frankfurt that if you don't have ALL the required vaccinations when you show up for your physical, then the doctor's office will not pass the results of the physical to the consulate in Frankfurt UNTIL you mail or fax them proof that you have been vaccinated (or mail them the results of an antibody test as proof that you don't need to be vaccinated).

It seems to be a fairly recent development, though (I had my interview and physical in January but there was already a note about the new "rules" in with the paperwork I received in December)).

So, yes, my comment that I would not have been able to enter the country on a K-1 unless I had ALL the required vaccinations was true.

Thanks for your good luck wishes, everybody :)

(Autumnal, I did go and have that treat - icecream- and do feel much better already...but maybe it was the hug that did it  )

CW

That's stupid. I just had a td shot this morning and my dr gladly faxed a note to the dr who did the medical to say i got the shot. there was nothing hard about it.

Looking at your timeline, I think you're talking about the vaccinations for the "medical during the K-1 process".....there was nothing hard about that one for me, either.

I am talking about the vaccination supplement that you need for filing AOS, though.

Yeah most of the accredited civil surgeon are pain in the rear end! We only have 2 accredited civil surgeon here in our town and some where located in Hartford which is quite far from us..anways this is what had happened, I call this first walk in clinic and spoke to the receptionist and as expected she dont know what I am saying so she connect my call to the doctor, I explained to the dc that I need a supplemental form for my I-693 then she said No you need to have the medical bla bla bla then I said Im done with my medical and I know it's valid for 1 yr so why would you want me to take for another medical, then she replied you know what thats the problem here most of you applicants dont listen to us we know what we are doing bla bla bla then she told me if I were you set an appoinment now because I have many patients then I said no thanx there were many accredited civil surgeons anyways why rush??? Then I call the other clinic finally the doctor says ok I will sign your supplemental form but you have to have follow up td shot and measles shot so all in all $150- my signature plus the shots... I just said ok I'll call back some other time... $150 is a big amount of money so it end up going to the AOS interview without that supplemental form but thanx God the interviewer didnt ask for it and the interview took only 5 minutes, yeah that fast...

I called literally 20 offices that either no longer do immigration stuff, don't do vaccinations at their office (what kind of doctor doesn't do vaccinations???), or had no clue what I was talking about before I finally found one who agreed to fill out the supplement for me. By that point I was HAPPY to pay $50. And I'm lucky because I live in an area with high population density, so the one I found was only an hour away. Living in Alaska probably makes it all the more difficult.

So I definitely understand the need to vent

We didn't even do the supplement. We put a letter in its place stating my husband had the required vaccinations at his visa medical and the information was surrendered at the POE. At our AOS interview earlier this week, it was not an issue. I even saw the vaccination worksheet in my husband's binder as the Adjucation Officer was flipping through. I know George and Lynne (whose interview was 1/2 after ours with a different officer, didn't have the supplement either and put a letter with their AOS application, and they had no issues either).

I can sympathize. Not that the process was particulary difficult for us (our closest civil surgeon had no problem doing it and was close by), but the whole process is illogical. Why must we pay to provide them with information that they confiscated from us??

Wow...I can't believe that it could have been worse.....at least I didn't have to call 20 (!) doctor's offices

I know that a lot of people got approved even though they never submitted the vaccination supplement. But since there are also several who got RFE'd for it, I thought I'd better play it safe and get that stupid thing.....I probably would have changed my mind if all 8 doctors on my list had refused to fill it out :D

Well, I am hoping that everything will go well on Monday and that I will be the proud owner of a brand-new vacc. supplement.....by the way, I read that some people here received the form in a sealed envelope.....did anybody ask for a copy of it at their doctor'as office to keep for themselves...?

Ask for that copy.

Sorry for the bold, but I do strongly recommend it! :D I was asked to check over the original form for accuracy (the one the civil surgeon was putting in the sealed envelope) and I basically agreed that everything looked correct. He attached the report for the TB check and all that to it, then sealed it up. I received a photocopy of all the paperwork in there for my own records, so in the event something goes awry, I have proof.

Also, it may be useful to take to the interview for whatever reason.

But considering you're paying this person a pretty reasonable sum of money, at the very least he can provide you with a photocopy that takes 5 minutes and $1.00 in copying costs at most. ;)

Unfortunately, in many countries the civil surgeons outright refuse to give the applicant a copy, even though it states explicitly on the form "Give copy to applicant". I made my poor fiance go back to ask for it, they refused, and I made him go back a second time, at which point they relented.
