Why call NVC for a case number?

We are in the process of petitioning for a K1.

I was doing research on the next step and there seems to be a lot of people calling NVC for a case number after you receive your NOA2 and their case has reached NVC. I was wondering what the point of this was, i.e. doesn't NVC mail us our case number? Is it to get a headstart on scheduling the interview?

Thanks!

I did receive a letter in the mail from NVC with the case #. However, I think alot of people call because some don't receive the letter. I'm not sure why that happens. And yes, part of it is to get a head start with the consulate. you can begin calling 1-603-334-0700 about 2 weeks after receiving your NOA2.

Yes the NVC will mail you a letter with your case number after they have shipped your petition to the embassy. The reason so many will call for the case number, is because you can get it that much quicker than waiting 2 weeks for the letter to arrive.

I would start calling the NVC after 10-15 days because it's a lot faster than they say. Whenever I called they would just tell me to call back after 35 days to keep me from calling so often. Also try to call early in the morning to avoid the 40-50 minute wait. I called 7 in the morning and got through in less than 5 minutes.
