Hello!

I would definitely recommend starting by reading the guides: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/300-general-k1-guides-and-info/

Then if you have any specific questions that you cannot find answers to feel free to post them and I'm sure several VJ members will be able to help!

Also, here is the thread for other November 2014 filers: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/520882-november-k1-filers/

Good luck! :)

OK, this is my 2nd try to post this...... lets see if this time I get it right

I've started my process for K1 Visa for my fiance who is in the Dominican Republic, as I wait for the interview I want to prepare, there are a few things that I am almost certain will get us sent to the investigation room  :

  • He is 11 years younger than me (I'm 35, he is 24)
  • He has a son who is 1yr 4mos old (he broke up with X in Oct 2012, we started dating Dec 2012, she told him she was pregnant Jan 2013)
  • I just recently got divorced June 2014, my X would not help me fiancially with the divorce (almost 1000 USD) and didn't want to sign although we've been separated for 5 years. To a single mother of 2 that was hard to finally pay off

I can assure you we are completely in l (L) , I've visited him 8 times :wow: in the last 2 years. He has met my parents my kids, other family and so have I met his family, son, friends etc. I sent in ample proof with pictures, resort receipts, phone records, facebook & IG pages, engagement pics, money sent (only 3), phone recharges, etc.

What else should I get ready for? what shoud I expect? :help:

Welcome!

Age is not a huge issue. My husband and I have a 13 year age difference and they approved us with no concerns. It sounds like you have lots of evidence for face to face meeting and an ongoing relationship so that will definitely help you!

As for his child, I don't think that will be an issue either. Friends of ours were approved the same day as we were and they included his 2 year old son in their petition and the baby had a similar timeline to yours. From what I've read from others on this site the divorce while you were in a relationship with him may be a red flag but I can't comment on that personally. Hopefully others will be able to give you some advice.

Thank you for your answers and suggestions? Keep em coming!!

Yes, I sent him money about 3 times (i'm a single mom so he never really asks me for anything, it was my decision mostly around his bday and things like that) Why?

Do you guys think the late divorce will be an issue? i was separated for 5 years but he refused to help pay for it, which on a single mom 1000 usd is a big burden... I have my lease and letter from my landlord which states how long I've lived with just my kids at the new address. I also put him through child support, which shows our different address, etc. I do have some proof that i've been separated for 5 years. I'm just afraid that they will pick on why i didn't pay for the divorce rathen than pay for a flight to go see my babe, but honestly i used some credit cards and i just wanted to see him... a visa what not the first thing on my mind.

Dominican Republic is one of countries that people on VJ have mentioned fall into high fraud category. Late divorce is fine as long as you are both free and legally married when you filed I-129F. Sent money in some US consulates sometimes rise a red flag. But beneficiaries are from DR can shed some light about this.

Welcome SusanBK,

We have similar stories... I also divorced (1) month prior to sending in my petition as I never felt the need to acquire such an expense being a single mom of three until I was proposed to and actually found a way to do this myself at no cost! So I know what you mean. My petition has been approved and we are currently waiting on our interview date in DR set for the 15th of December. You seem to be well prepared in regards to evidence. I wouldn't worry about the age difference, I have read many cases where VJ members are approved with a much greater age difference and furthermore, they are not supposed to discriminate (its against our constitution). If questions arise to that effect just be honest and the truth will prevail.

Good Luck on your journey!
