While looking at packet 3 I am confused as to whether you send documents off with it or not. It repeatedly says on the packet not to send any documents. Yet DS156 it says please attach the following documents: birth certificate 134 etc. Also is it necessary to generate barcodes for DS156? I filled it out and printed it online but no bar code came out. Thanks.

You just send off the forms that you fill in, then take all your 'official'' docs with you to the interview..

No need to generate a barcorde, I didnt, I just filled in the form, and sent it off!

Do two DS-156; one for the interview and the second for the place you pay the visa fee. A bank for most countries.

Indeed. Some embassies/consulates require that you hold onto the form and bring it and the required documents that go along with it with you to the interview. Check to see what they require.

According to the London Consulate website barcoding enables them to process the DS156 quicker. Whether this is true or not who knows but it never hurts to do anything that may speed up the process.

First I've heard that the 2nd copy of DS-156 is for the entity where the visa fee is paid. Maybe a special instruction specific to the US consulate in Bogota?

What about K2s and K4s, for whom only 1 copy of DS-156 is generally required?
