Skype Translator coming soon!

Not sure where this belongs, but yall check this out. Microsoft is working on an app that will translate Skype conversations in real time. I don't have a language barrier, as my fella is English, but I can imagine a lot of people on this website could really benefit from this.

It's still in a limited beta phase but as it gets rolled out, more devices will be supported and I'm sure more languages will come, too.

Watched a demonstration of this on TV the other week: an English speaker conversing with a German speaker. Seemed pretty sophisticated and will be useful for virtual meetings of all kinds (romantic and non-romantic).

Eh. English is my first language. It is my wife's first language. We regularly spend afternoons together, when I visit, snuggled on the couch or on the bed, chatting on Skype via text. We both hate video chat, so I think we've video chatted all of maybe five times in the three years we've been together and almost four years we've known each other. I don't find it stilted at all.

Lol you're right. One can't really expect to carry on a long term relationship if the couple isn't able to actually communicate in the same language.

Oh, that's clearly not true. I know some VJers who cannot speak the same language, and they seem to make it work somehow.
