My wife has a 4 year degree from "College of the Visayans" from the Philippines, in Business Adm.!

Wonder how it would be received here in the USA, as she is now looking to start a career, computer literate, and very smart, overall.,..,.,

Just wondering, share your thoughts.,.,.,

Seems different countries are accepted more readily than others.,.,.,..,.

I've almost got my NVQ Level 3 in Business Admin, and also have a BTEC National Diploma in ICT (also Level 3). I don't have any kind of degree so I hope they count for something or I'm gonna have to go and get a GED :D

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

That's true, my friend is a retail pharmacist in florida and gets about 120k. The only downer is long hours and working some weekends.

It is not where I breathe but where I love that I live.

not everyone is a computer engineer. I am sure you understand the experience of getting hired if you have a degree in literature from x country instead of a degree in a technical field is vastly different.

The amount of offers I received from Insurance or Healthcare companies offering me roles in Sales selling their products was ridiculous...I never really applied to these companies, but because my resume was on job sites (Careerbuilder, Monster etc) then I used to get phone calls offering me interviews etc.

I actually went to some of them, purely for experience.

I should point out that I have a Chemistry degree from a UK university with no sales experience...

I applied for countless jobs, and I did get a Chemist position close to where we live, sadly that was almost 6 weeks ago and they haven't held that for me as I am still waiting on my EAD,

So now I fill my time volunteering with a company...which is fun, but a struggle financially.

My husband's Danish technical education basically counted for nothing, so he worked in a labor job at first. His high school leaving certificate was not enough to even begin a trade education here, so he got a GED (not at all difficult). Now he's working and studying to be a plumber.

In terms of a career change, you can always start part time at a community college which you should be able to work and afford to pay for those classes at the same time. For Early Childhood Education a 2 year degree from a community college will suffice, but I can't say the job is probably worth the money you'll put into the degree. If you'd rather be a licensed teacher you can do the first two years at community college and then the last 2 years at a bigger university.

I think America really can be a financial struggle and many people in their 20s are finding it difficult. We've recently moved to an area with almost no unemployment and employers are begging for workers. It is risky, but it has worked out well for us.

To the OP: "Ausbildung" is roughly the equivalent of an Apprenticeship here, but not really, since, to my knowledge, there is no "Berufsschule" here, and it's all "learning on the job" (We have a great system in Germany in that regard, I think.) So Walgreens or CVS sounds about right as entry level jobs for you. Yes, college education in the US of A is very expensive, but you should take a look at 2-year colleges/community colleges.

Good luck.

the main problem for some of us that we have to get all our certificates to apply and to be authorized to work.

I'm a pharmacist and couldn't collect all my certificates because my country is in war, so I've got some of them and don't know what should I do in the states?

Hey that sounds interesting :) I suppose you have a bachelors or masters degree ? I did a so called ausbildung in Germany and feel like this is just not enough for he US :/ where from germany are you ? I'm from a small city near cologne

Sorry for the late reply, I am not on here as much as I used to. Yes, I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business - I decided to get my studies done in Germany before I moved to America, since, as you said, higher education can be very costly in the US. I did an Ausbildung before going to college, too, though. I agree, a German Ausbildung/dual apprenticeship does not count for as much here in America - mostly because Americans don't know what the term means, and many professions that you can do with an Ausbildung in Germany require a college degree in the US (such as RN's, etc).

Whenever I was asked about my Ausbildung, I just told them that it gave me not only a solid education, but that, at the same time, it gave me a lot of on-the-job practice. I then continued by telling them about my job duties and achievements during my Ausbildung, which I think they liked. Just try to find the positive things of an Ausbildung and tell them about it.

I am from Eastern Germany, Thueringen. :)

I worked as a nurse here on a work visa then went back to school for MSN and became a nurse practitioner and worked as that on work visa prior to marriage (and after).

If any of those with chem/pharm backgrounds were interested in decent paying jobs that won't necessarily require your degrees to be equivalent, there are a TON of jobs with medical device/pharmaceutical companies as both clinical research people, sales reps, medical science liaisons etc. They pay fairly well and once you are in at one it's easy to move to other companies.
