For those who are genetically gay, yes.

For those who choose to be gay, no.

You persist in your delusion, that's fine. You clearly won't be convinced otherwise.

Being gay is not like: being a goth, being emo, being "ghetto," falling in love with someone of another race, electing to be a Pentecostalist.

Being gay is like: being a heterosexual, resembling your parents, being born with a marker for breast cancer.

Racism. Reported! :ranting:

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

That's the gayest thing I've heard all day.

This is because I have seen it from both sides. I grew up with people who were heterosexual and turned homosexual because it was a better fit for their life choice. If you want to be delusional and pretend life choices and circumstances don't play a part this is your choice.

One friend divorced a high school sweetheart. Met a woman who helped her a lot with her kids when their father split. They became good friends, had a lot in common and her kids loved her. They decided they wanted to be together so that's what they did. Is still currently working out for them.

I had a cousin, most popular in high school, dated the so called finest guy in the school, yada yada yada. She was married when she started seeing another woman. She was working at a strip club trying to make ends meet with her husband did what he wanted. The woman was already gay, they became friends and she decided being with her was a better choice.

My male friend who turned gay was actually abused as a young boy. His abuse didn't make him change but he decided he wanted to be homosexual. He used to live across the street from me. I was there for his full transformation. From small kids until high school. He takes hormone shots now although he has not taken the final step to transgender.

People choose whatever they want to choose. Like some choose to be gothic, choose to be emo, choose to be ghetto. People make choices they feel like is suitable to them regardless of what others think.

People choose to marry outside of their race knowing the ####### they will get if they live in the South. People choose a religion even though they know they will be stereotyped for the rest of their life. People can make choices.

Choosing to be gay, would be like choosing to be black in 1790's GA

Finally some common sense

So you think you could wake up tomorrow morning and choose to be a lesbian?? Sexual orientation is about who you are attracted to. My brother was married for 13 years, had 3 kids when he decided to finally admit to himself and people around him that he was in fact gay. Trying to live a 'conventional' life doesn't make someone less gay.

You are required to have your own opinion.

You do realize being gay has a history in all countries and it didn't start in the 1790s. So I do think this is a poor comparison.

You can wake up the next day and choose whatever you want to choose to do.

Tomorrow I will choose to be sensitive and caring

It funny to me because I was born the way I am. Also....no amount of poor parenting or abuse could turn me gay.

However...I believe there is some truth to what Janelle is saying. Most people are born straight. This is normal. Then the spectrum falls off. Some are asexual, some gay some transgender, some pedophiles, some are into beastiality etc. In that mix are people who do not have a strong genetic sexual preference. These are the ones that can choose to change sides. For most of us......no such luck

If I could choose I'd be bisexual and perhaps, those who believe gays choose they sexuality are, in fact, bisexual. They can only believe sexuality is a choice, if it is a choice for themselves, which in essence makes them bi.

Why would anyone believe that someone chooses to be gay? Would someone choose to be hetero? I am but I don't recall making any such choice.
