How much alcohol can I bring with me when visiting the U.S

I know how many bottles of liquor or wine I can bring back with me to Canada, due to the fact that alcohol is so much cheaper in the U.S. I always bring some back home with me. But we received bottles of liquor as engagement gifts from friends and family in Canada and I want to bring them with me to Florida on my next trip. Doubt it makes a difference but I'm crossing in Vermont to fly out from Boston. Do the same regulations apply, up to 40 ounces per person?

Thank you

I always declare what I am bringing... And they never had me pay anything. Most was about two cases of wine bottles in my car. Last month, eight bottles of wine, two liquor flying in from Europe, no problem.

Once or twice I tried to dig on how much I could really bring, how much duties to pay, etc. They all said it was too much paperwork and if it was for personal consumption, not to worry :/

Man, I had to pay 45 bucks at the Roosville crossing because I had three 750 ml bottles of vodka, which was 1.11 litres over the 1.14-litre limit.

And you guys are bringing cases? Ugh.

Side note: If you're into craft beer, the bottles are bigger. The 24-bottle limit on beer works out to about 13 bottles of craft.

I guess it depends on the agent... but, I was able to move my cellar and wine collection, over many trips and didn't pay a dime. The only "real" questions I have had about the value of my items, or quantity of alcohol, is when I cross into Canada; CBP has been indifferent in my experience.

Mail the liquor to yourself, its a pain in the ### to claim when you cross on a visa

That's because until Parliament was attacked, the primary role of Canadian customs was to act as a tax man, not border protector. Hopefully that will change.

But I'm not crossing with my visa, just going for a visit. So i'll bring one of our bottles with me.
