Accepting & starting jobs with EAD

Hi,

I just found this fantastic site and hoping you all can help me!

I moved to USA as a L2 visa (Spouse of an L1 visa holder) and applied for my EAD on September 3rd 2014. Its been 2 months and still waiting approval. I understand it can take up to 3 months so thats fine.

My questions are:

1) At what point can I accept a job offer, which I currently have! (Do I have to wait until I see the status changes to accepted or can I accept now and hope they will wait?)

2) At what point can the Company start processing my employment with them?

3) At what point can I start working?

for 2 and 3 above, CAn this be done when I see the status change to accepted, or do I have to wait for the documents to arrive first?

Any advice/help is much appreciated!

From what I understand you can not start work or them processing you for a job till you have the hard copy of the card in hand. Do not jump the gun and start work or them checking on your ability to work until you have the card in hand.'

The Employer will want to see the card before you start, well they should.

Forget now if you need EAD to get a SSN on a L2, that is something they could wait for.

Wow, thanks for a quick response! that is what I thought, so I guess it could be a while before I start work. Do you know how long it takes between approval and receiving the documents?

Boiler: I already have my SSN, you dont need EAD for that :)

NOTE: Actual sent date unknown due to lawyer negligence - I delivered ALLForms and PAID Lawyer on Nov 7, 2012 - Lawyer kept saying he sent the packet and USCIS must have lost it. When in reality he failed to send the package and only a new copy to USCIS after I made a legal written demand giving him 10 days to perform or return ALL monies paid to him, due to "non-performance".

(IMO it's better to save your money for visits to or from your Fiancé and just fill it out yourself using the K-1 Guide on VJ and Senior Members... They Rock!!!)

Hi,

Congratulations on your Job Offer!!

You can apply to Expedite your EAD based on "Severe Financial Loss to an Individual or Company" My Fiance (K-1) and I JUST did this and it was approved and now has his EAD... and has started working.

We asked for the Expedite 2 days before he did Biometrics but if you already have done Biometrics it should work! (You need Biometrics for the EAD process) Some people have successfully done an EARLY Biometrics Walk-In appt at their local field office once they received their Bio Appt. letter.

Follow the below thread as good advice!! It will answer your questions and give you the steps to accomplish this.

Thanks Enigma! I think I will wait. Its 2 months today so hoping its approved very soon anyways. I am still applying for other jobs as the offer I have is a bit far to get to currently without a vehicle! but may need to accept if I dont find another job sooner. Just needed to find out details of when I can accept/start offer and how long to wait for EAD documents :)
