I think the proper way to look at it is like this. He's achieved a lot, but none of it good, and he has fundamentally transformed the US in a very negative and un-murikan way. Does that help?

I don't think the criticisms have anything to do with an appraisal of policy, as much as personality and perceptions of ideology.

Some people seem to seriously believe that others hold Obama to be a quasi religious figure, rather than a career politician, and don't seem aware that they are simply projecting their assumptions onto others.

I think it's all three.

Some people need to demonize the opposition in order to substantiate their fears. When in reality we are all for the most part, trying to do what's best for the country.

Sure. I think it's very important for people to use their vote - even if they don't support any of the candidates who are running. At least here in the UK your vote is counted if you deface your ballot paper. That's more of a statement than not voting at all.

Certainly not 50% - or anywhere near that percentage - comprise the group you describe below. I'd say 10% is a safe estimate, but for speculative purposes you can go with 20%.
