Hi, new here. I love researching all the helpful information you guys share with your experiences with this whole awful process. I filed for my husband in December of 2013. We are still waiting for NVC approval, or a forward to the embassy, or an interview date. or anything. We got a dreaded checklist letter for on Oct 27th for some additional documents for our AOS. Supposedly our lawyer sent them in Thursday by snail mail. I don't feel this is a normal amount of time to wait. I certainly don't think it's acceptable for the NVC to make every single step take SOOOOOOO long. I'm not great with computers and I find this site somewhat difficult to navigate. If anyone knows any helpful links I can research so I can feel like I am doing something to make some progress it would be greatly appreciated. I am feeling hopeless and helpless and I really really miss my husband. I also am confused by the timeline but I did the best I could.

I'm not sure what exactly is it that you are looking for, but the link below shows you the overall immigration process and what you have to do at each step. In each step there are further links with further information.

IMO I have noticed that lawyers make this process more complicated, rather than more simple. I have seen various threads on here where people end up cleaning the lawyer's mess.

The reason is because all documents and forms have to be correct and in order before the NVC will forward your case to the embassy and give you an interview date. They do it this way to ensure that people have everything they need for the day of the interview.

Back in the day, people would show up with the wrong forms, sometimes without any documents, etc and it would cause unnecessary delays for people who had everything done properly.

Therefore, the NVC process can be as short as a couple of months to a year or more depending on: 1- how fast you send the required docs, 2- how fast they review the docs, and 3- if the documents submitted are all there and correct.

This does not constitute legal advice.

~~moved to progress reports from process and procedures as it seems OP is not asking a question about the process but is venting about how long it takes~~
