If you're really intent on assigning fault and blame, you should be pointing your finger at the authors of the U.S. Constitution.

It's Reagan's fault, and if not, it's Bush's fault, and if not, it's the fault of Fox News! Open them damned borders and let them people in. We've got free stuff and American jobs to give them.

Reagan signed it, and a pox on hm for doing so.

However the people that use it as a last ditch attempt to defend Obama's throwing the borders open forget.

It was written and passed by a Democratic congress with a promise, the Border would be closes and employers would be prosecuted for hiring illegals. They failed to do either. Just proves you can't trust liberals to keep their word.

So tell me. How does any of this always derail the conversation as to what we should do TODAY

From what I understand they only take the jobs Americans don't want or won't do. Like building houses for example. I remember back before the mass influx of illegals my family was living in a hole in the ground because the illegals hadn't yet shown up to build us a house. I'm sure all of us here have similar stories. We should be happy to have them here!

Absolutely! After all, we American's are just too good to pick fruit and vegetables, do landscaping, and build houses. We just need to find another way to allow people into the US to serve us so that it doesn't appear like slavery.

You shouldn't have hired them or ask for proof they were authorized to work in the US. E-verify has been available since the late 90s(?). In addition since 1986 employers have been required to obtain positive proof of status before hiring an alien.

If nobody hired them, they wouldn't be here.

It is true the government must protect our borders and all, but the question remains, should the motley crew not walk their talk of personal responsibility and not hire anyone failing to pass E-verification?

Are either of the main political parties offering an anti immigration platform?

Seems to me this is an ongoing issue and its simply become fashionable to trot it out as a de facto attack on anyone who happens to be in office.

Noone here seems to be offering any practical solution. I wonder why.

Here's an idea:

Close the Gol-Danged effing border and get an accounting of all the illegal border jumpers. Lock the felons up and send the rest to the back of the effing line.

Just like n Peach County GA,Got they pay the illegals to come pick the fruit, and pay the locals to sit home. The Majority of people in the county are on Public assistance, yet they can't find enough people to work during growing season.

I know you are logical about the situation, but honestly. You can't talk to the deniers about the current immigration problem, that is larger than ever without them bringing up something that happened almost 40 years ago,. Yes Reagan should not have signed, but to be fair they never followed up or enforced the provisions of the bill as promised.

It would be like saying it's ok If a Republican makes a racist Statement because Robert Byrd was in the KKK or because the Dems we against ending slavery. It just has no bearing on the issue today
