electronic AR-11/address change

We just went online yesterday to print the AR-11 and found that you can now file the AR-11 electronically. You can also go through a separate process to file an address change if you have a pending petition, using the receipt number and (I think) Service Center name, so we did both. The second (trackable) receipt number that was on the second NOA-1 and the biometrics letter wasn't found, but the first one (non-trackable) that was on the first NOA-1 was.

Has anyone else filed an electronic change of address? Did it work? (i.e. Did you then later receive mail from USCIS at your new address?) The confirmation said that we would be mailed a paper confirmation of the change of address by the service center ... within 45 days. And that if we didn't get one within 45 days, to call the 800 number with the confirmation number.

We hadn't planned to move again until G's I-751 was approved (should be in May) but then we saw a house that was way underpriced and had to buy it. But now we're worried (like everyone else) about what happens if the interview letter (if there is one) or NOA-2 or green card get sent to the old address. We have the apartment until February 19 but I doubt we'll hear anything about our case before the end of April or early May. I feel like the electronic change of address is probably slightly more reliable than calling the 800 number since there's no reading the information to a third party who has to enter it; but I'm still worried.

We had been going to ask to have the mail held at the post office and just pick it up once a week, but they won't hold it for more than 30 days. So I guess we'll have to have it forwarded.

(BTW You can't do an online change of address if your case is at a local office, and the I-865 still needs to be printed and mailed.)

I mailed AR-11 using priority mail on Jan 3 but it didn't get to USCIS in Kentucky until Jan 11. So I decided to change the address online on Jan 9 (just want to make sure I changed it within 10 days). The only confirmation I got was the confimration page (which you should pint and keep for reference - it contains date and time stamp). I used a new addess when I filed my I-751 and I assum that TSC went by the address on my I-751, not what was currently on their file because they mailed the notice to my new address.

I moved once before I got a 2 year green card in 2005. At that time they didnt' have the online form yet. I had to submit the paper and I got the mail from them saying that they receiveed my form and they could contact us at new address. I am not sure about new electronic filing system because I haven't got anything about my change of address yet.

You can call service center as soon as you move if you have the pending case (and also file AR-11 either electronic or paper form). You should be okay.

A lot of people have done it the way you suggest (by telephone) and had the mail sent to the old (wrong) address that was on the pending petition, not the new (correct) address they notified of, and then having their petition denied because they didn't respond to the mail that was sent to the old address. I'd just as soon not have to deal with going through rescission proceedings, you know?

My question is if people know if the new way of notifying of the address change (online instead of by mail) means that there won't be the problem with the address not getting changed, which there was in the past when you had to do it by phone or snail mail.

I wouldn't worry about it even if they didn't get your address change the first time around.

Not for the AR-11 you don't, but allegedly for the separate address change you can file electronically (only if you have a case pending), there is a confirmation letter mailed out within 45 days.

There is no confirmation notice for the AR-11, although there is one for the I-865.

Of course, but aren't things from USCIS usually marked "DO NOT FORWARD"? I think I've seen that asked and answered here a lot. The post office won't forward something marked that way, and most government mail is.

Agreed ... since the electronic AR-11 is so new (I'd gone online to print one out two weeks ago and it wasn't mentioned then, but then I lost the one I printed so had to print another yesterday), maybe an electronic I-865 isn't far behind. Not that we're planning on moving again for awhile, anyway.

When i moved i called them up and requested for the address change .i recieved the address change confirmationletter from them after more than a month(1month 19 days).I suggest you call them up and ask what address they have in their records .i Think thatas the best way to go

My understanding is that USPS mail forwarding does not work for USCIS documents. They will be returned by the USPS to USCIS as undeliverable if the resident is no longer at the address on the envelope.

1. The alien must fill out an AR-11. The sponsor (usually the USC spouse, possibly someone else as well) must fill out the I-865.

2. As I said above, YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE AN NOA-1 for the AR-11. So it's perfectly normal that you haven't heard from them, because you shouldn't. The proof is your delivery confirmation.

3. There should be a written confirmation sent for both the I-865 and for the address change (whether electronic or telephonic).
