I was told to get a new passport they do not amend them anymore. I was warned if I left the USA and tried to re enter I may not be allowed and I am the USC. All of this was via a telephone call to the Visa services offices. The operator informed me that as of last September they stopped amending passports and all ladies were being told to get new passports issued. I just got a new passport. Good luck.

Francis they sent the old passport back to me with some holes punched in it. I have it put up so you should not lose all your stamps.

Did you have to pay for a replacement, or was it like applying for a brand new one?

Interestingly, the state department still tells you to send in the amended form...

http://travel.state.gov/passport/fri/amend/amend_851.html grrrrrrrrrr, I hate when they tell people different things...so you never know what is exactly right.

I had to pay for the whole new passport fee. The lady told me on the phone it was error on the fees showing on the web. I sent them the old passport, new form and fees. I got it back roughly 5 weeks later. I had my passport just one year and she said I still had to pay the full price. :crying:

This is what I'm going to do, too! My passport won't expire until 2012 and I really don't feel like changing it, right now.

My husband and I will travel to Europe in the summer and I will have my ticket in my maiden name to match the passport and will bring a copy of our marriage certificate to prove my name change as in the Green Card. I may change my passport in a year or so, but right now it's just too much trouble since we want to travel soon.

Here's the URL stating the new policy for name changes to US passports:

http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/corre...cting_2654.html

My wife was a bit annoyed with the embassy because she tried to get them to issue the visa in her married name and showed them the passport amendment, but they said it doesn't matter.

So when filling out the landing card for Italy and the US Customs card on the way back, which name should she use? The one on her ticket or the one on her green card?

This makes me want to go to the Embassy of the Philippines and request a refund for the name amendment, since I can't seem to get it recognized by anyone.

I would call the number that was on the website and ask their advice? I know the lady told me if I did not send the whole amount for new passport that I would just of had my papers returned to me. It would be issue of lost time plus the worry of losing my marriage license. And she did advise me that if the names did not match at re entry into the states I could be denied and once I amended my name on Drivers License or other document it basically made the old passport obsolete. So I got new one just to avoid any problems in the future.
