Two questions, if someone can help...

My husband lived in Thailand for 9 months. Will he need to get a police certificate from Thailand as well?

And is it possible to use a joint sponsor because I have been abroad for 2 years and then after making sufficient income in the US, switching to just me being the sponsor so the other person isn't bound for 10 years?

Andlolosays,

You need police clearance from thailand for your husband because he lived there more than 6mos. There are areas in middle east that are exempted from pc but i'm not sure with thailand. Maybe you can wait from others' advise.

Re sponsorship oapers sorry i do not have any idea. Maybe you can check saylin's wiki at page 1.

Good luck to you!

Doesn't work that way, anyone who signs an I-864 is bound to its conditions until/unless one of the stated provisions that would end such obligation occurs.

Thanks, juandelacruz! I (of course) have now found the info for the police clearance. Just for anyone else needing to know, it actually says that you need one after 6 months if you're in your country of nationality for 6 months. For if you've lived in another country, it's 12 months of living there that you'd need that police clearance. So looks like he won't need one from Thailand (whew!) source: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/submit/documents-to-submit-to-nvc.html

And thanks Ryan H, for the answer! Will just apply for him to be a US citizen after the 3 years so he doesn't need a sponsor anymore :)
