Well it's official. We got a checklist. They need my husband's W2 for some reason (did I miss that being necessary when we submitted his return?!) and my mother-in-law's i864a Section 1 to be filled out "completely". NOt sure what that's about. Is it because we left mailing address blank because it was the same as above? Is it because we left the "city" of her birth blank? There is no city it's unincorporated land in China.

So devastated.

Oh no, I am so sorry to see this! I logged on to see your CC announcment and I am so sad you got a checklist. Big hugs

I know what it is like to get a checklist, I got one too. Take time to feel sad, but then dust yourself off and get the corrections in ASAP to start the clock ticking again. You will get through this nightmare.

Wishing you all the best x

So sorry to hear this. I was looking forward to your CC ):

They can ask for more evidence if they want (hence the request for W2)

In regards to your second question call them and ask specifically what's wrong with the form and what needs to be updated.

My husband is going to call this morning.

Sorry about your checklist..

How did you get to know about the checklist? Did you call or thru email?

What is your scan date for aos and iv?

Called. My scan date is in my signature.

If you submit tax returns (instead of tax transcripts), then yes, W2s are required. You need to submit the entire tax return package (1040, W2s, 1099s, schedules, worksheets, etc). Basically everything that was sent to the IRS has to be sent to NVC.

As for section 1 not being completely filled out, without actually looking at the form, I'd say it's that city of birth being left blank. You'll probably have to write N/A in that spot, then I'd suggest writing a little paragraph about it in the cover letter, and for good measure, maybe even include a sticky note, right next to that question, explaining why there's no city.

And, you may also want to fill out the place of residence question as well. I know NVC was giving out checklists for this question being left blank on the I-864EZ, so it may be the same for the I-864A as well. But the checklist should tell you exactly what's wrong.

I have no idea about the American tax system so it's all nonsense to me :( My husband has a pretty straightforward return so I guess he didn't think about the w2 which sounds like what we call a "group certificate". Just annoying because all the info on the w2 is on the tax return.

I will have my husband ask them what was missing from the i864a so we can fix it. He has emailed his mum to ask her some specific questions about her province in China to see if we can give more info.

Oh no, I am so sorry to see this! I logged on to see your CC announcment and I am so sad you got a checklist. Big hugs

This just all seems so stupid. What an effing stupid thing to be checklisted over. I hate this process so much. It doesn't make any sense. So now I have to be separated from my husband for up to a couple of months because the NVC people have no discretion whatsoever to use common sense and figure sh*t out for themselves.

So upset

I am the beneficiary. My husband is the petitioning USC.

I know exactly how you are feeling. I got checklisted for putting my annual income in 13a (instead of $0 because of foreign income exclusion) It was all in my tax return, they could have easily found what they needed, but instead I got a checklist and had to add another 71 days (yes, of course I was the one who went over the 60 days) to have this one tiny thing reviewed. The idiot who reviewed my checklist filed my application away without completing my case, so I had to get a supervisor to review it and complete the case.

I definitely know how absolutely bullsh*t this whole process is and all I can say is hang in there. We are powerless over their ignorance, but we will all eventually get through it one way or another. I know this won't make you feel better right know, but you will get there eventually. Just have to jump through all of their ridiculous hoops unfortunately. Visa Journey was a great support group for me during my wait, so many people can understand and relate, so never hesitate coming on here and venting.

Sending positivity!

i'm newbie here, and i'd like to get some advice from you. my scan date was on sep 23 and i just called nvc today, and very frustrated by what they told me. it seems i have some problem for my overseas police certificate. i was living in malta for a couple of years back to 20 years ago, and i provided malta police certificate along with the other docs. but now rep told me my docs has been transfered to supervisor because they have doubt on malta police certificate, but it was issued by malta police headquarter. if this is not proper template, i don't know where should i get it from. this is really ridiculous. could anyone here give me some advice on this? if i call nvc for the supervisor's contact no. will they give it to me? i want my attorney talk to the supervisor, or i just wait a few days to see if they finally can verify it?

- Joint sponsor's documents are all good and correct and signed off, no problems there either

- I talked to an INCREDIBLY nice NVC operator

is there a rule for nvc that they only issue checklist once? if the doc is still unacceptable; then the applicant just need to bring the original to the consulate for the interview. is this true?

No it is not. They typically issue a total of 2 checklists and in some rare cases they have issued 3. Usually it is only a max of 2 and then the third time you can take the correction to the embassy.

thank you jcruzazucar. the problem is my police certificate is without my parents' name on it which is required by nvc, but malta police headquarter insists that is the standard tamplete they issued no need to put parents name. this is killing me, i really don't know how to do it know.

Pick Malta at the following link and you can know if you submitted the correct police certificate or not: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html
