Hi all! My fiancé and I are currently waiting on his passport, and it probably won't be here until the middle to end of April which will put us in dangerous territory of going past the expiration date on our petition (5/19/15). How does this part work? I'm hoping it'll all be ready and we'll have our interview before then, but what should we do preventatively? I have heard something like submitting another letter of intent from the petitioner. So can I just send my fiancé (the beneficiary) a letter of intent without a typed date and sign it and he can date it closer to our interview? We are at the London embassy. Thank you in advance!!

As long as part of the process is done, ie the DS-160 or medical or whatever, they will know that you are still pursuing the visa. Then at the interview he just needs an updated letter of intent :)

Visa Approved!!!!

Congrats!

Hi everyone! I've been following this thread since it started. You've all been very helpful to one another.

So I'm here to reach out for some help.

We just received our NOA2 on 3/17/15.

Where or who do I call to verify if it's been sent to NVC?

https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ click on IMMIGRANT and enter your info. It should say "Transit" when it's been send to the embassy, and "Ready" when it's arrived at the embassy. You can try calling them but some embassy will not answer any immigration question.

11/25/2014 I-129f mailed to Dallas Lockbox

12/04/2014 Receipt NOA 1 via email

12/10/2014 Receipt hard copy NOA 1

12/24/2014 Receipt NOA 2 via checking website

12/26/2014 Receipt hard copy NOA 2

01/20/2014 On hold for ONLY 30 min, got our case# MTL 1234....

02/10/2014 Called NVC (4 times in 3weeks) no update. Checked website in afternoon, IN TRANSIT?!!

02/11/2014 READY. After 21 days of no activity our status magically jumped 2 levels in less than 24hr.

Emailed MONTREAL-IV-DV@STATE.GOV requested further communication via email.

02/17/2014 Got an email response from MTL "Your file is being reviewed. We soon provide you instructions."

03/04/2014 Submitted multiple inquiries with no response! Tired of waiting around, so emailed in Packet 3 with copy of student visa.

03/09/2014 CEAC Status Date changed AGAIN to today. Hope this mean we'll be getting Packet 4 soon.

03/11/2014 GOT PACKET 4! CEAC Status Date changed.

04/17/2014 Interview appointment.

Ok, I have another stupid question.

I've entered the case number that was on my NOA2 but that does not seem to work.

Am I supposed to have a different case #?

I'm so confused lol

your case number should have 3 Letters followed by 10 digits. The 3 letters should be where your embassy is.

You need to call the NVC and ask them for your case number. There are 2 other numbers they can give you - I forget what they are at the moment but we didn't need them. When you call, keep trying till it rings through. Don't select the option about 'if your petition has been approved within the last 35 days...' - wait until you hear the option about checking on the status of a fiancé visa. Good luck, and congratulations on getting your NOA2!

Hello Nichi,

USCIS has or will be sending your case/file to the NVC. They will tell you that it takes up to 30days+ for your case to get to the NVC. Some get there a LOT faster, some get there around the time they quote.

VJ says to call and check your to see if NVC received two weeks AFTER your NOA2 notification. I would wait at least that long.

Call them (603-334-0700) after the two weeks. They are open from 7am - Midnight EST. It could take a REALLY long time to get through and be on hold, but WAIT. I had to call three times and the last time I was on hold for almost a hour. :(

Once you get through give them your USCIS "RECEIPT" number and will then tell you they have or have not received your case yet. If they do NOT have it, they will say "they haven't received your case yet and to call back in __ days).

IF they have received your case, ask them for your CASE NUMBER and your INVOICE ID (I think that's what it is).

Once you have the case number, it usually takes about a week for your case to get from the NVC to your embassy. You can then check the https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ and follow the status of your case. It will go from IN TRANSIT to READY once the file gets to the embassy.

Check out your embassy forum to see how the process works/goes once your case gets there.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!
