You should leave the name calling aside or save it for someone else and focus on the discussion instead. It is true that containment is the most effective way to combat this outbreak. And without a sufficient amount of capable and competent professionals willing and able to go to the source to undertake that containment, it won't happen. And if that fails, the virus will spread. And it will spread to our shores. Robbing folks who have volunteered in the effort to contain the outbreak of their freedom without due process and without any discernible cause will decrease the number of available volunteers. And that is what will ultimately bring this bug to our shores. It's useless, short-sighted, hysterical activism. Nothing more.

and with no symptoms, she is not contagious of anything! So going out into public with no fever or other signs is not dangerous!

Say what you want. I scheduled a Dr. Appt. today. I was asked three questions before they would book...

1) Have I been in a region where people are infected with ebola?

2) Have I been in contact with anyone known to have been infected with ebola?

3) Have I been in contact with bats or rats?

I said no to all three. Got my appointment no problem. Then I asked what if I had answered YES to any of the three questions? The lady told me I would be asked to remain at home and avoid contact with people as much as possible, they would NOT have given me an appointment, and they would have reported my answers to "higher", whatever that is.

So it seems that SOME people in the health profession don't think it is a good idea for people who only MAY have been exposed to be out and about in public, and for sure they would not have admitted me into the hospital.

I kind of agree with her. As long as she is reporting her temperature twice a day I think thats enough. Seems to me the best and cheapest solution is a 24 hr quarantine coming off the plane to verify vitals followed by mandatory reporting of temperature for 22 days.

Politicians shouldn't drive public health policy. It is not a political issue, they should simply provide factual information, not this speculation and 'what if' based on nothing but fear.

I understand the science that she is not contagious until showing symptoms (there still is a question on when and what level of contagious though). But we already have examples of two health professionals that have been in contact with people after knowing and showing symptoms.

1. The nurse from Fort Worth that flew on a commercial plane.

2. The doctor that went around NYC after showing symptoms.

I agree that's what is driving this.

Based on the science, it's still an overreaction, but it's really an overreaction to the previous inability of two people to self quarantine when symptoms started to become evident.

I returned to the US earlier this week after traveling to countries that present a threat of Ebola infection. After arriving back to the US and entering customs, the only thing appearing was a simple sign pushed far from the path of those entering.
