Davie is exaclty right. Associating Liberals with being mentally slow will get you in big trouble. Posting threads that do nothing but attack Democrats will get them locked as baiting.

However

All gun people are insane, Gun nutters. Right Wing nut jobs. People who have guns are meanly Ill. Old white people are all the Repubs are.

All those things are cool

Drive on . Just giving you a heads up

I call face palm and tinfoil on this post.

Read the thread.

You get mad if people put words onto your keyboard, yet you ask me to "read the thread" to find out why you are offended by using guns as props. That can't go well...

I'm serious... why does it bother you? Why does it even MATTER to you (or me) what props they may use? A golf club, a baseball bat, an airsoft gun, a knife, a tennis racket. Why would any of these be "wrong" as a prop in a pic?

I prefer handcuffs, whips and chains.

I find it amazing that you think its necessary to find a comeback for that. Are you really interested in the topic or what I think?

If you are then read the thread, why should I repeat myself because you can't be bothered?

Mod hat off

Two things about this thread

1. In the pictures of kids with guns, there's one with a clearly younger kid sitting off to the side. What's going on there?

2. If I went to Australia, I reserve the right to say negative things about Vegemite after trying it.

As for the rest of it, I think Merle has made some very strong and very good points in this tread. I would like to nominate him for "winner of the thread". I started off reading this thread thinking posing for a highschool photo with a weapon was silly. But I can see now some validity to it. As long as the pictures could be taken off campus an as they outlined (without pointing the gun at the camera or with an animal in distress) it's prob fine. Kinda makes me wish I had taken mine with a Kentucky long rifle.

Why would anyone want to do this?

"No substance"

I guess the policy would also include the word kid who's into taxidermy or collecting postage stamps

say what?

It just seems strange wanting to have a school photo taken while holding a gun. It is honestly an alien concept to me - as if having the gun is part of their identity. Just mad.

It's "strange, alien, and mad"... but still you say nothing about WHY you don't like it, or WHY it's mad in your mind.

Sure, if a person so desired they could photograph themselves naked and hogtied with an apple in their mouth.

I'm just not convinced it would be the best choice for a school photo.

I could be wrong.

"Not the best choice for a school photo"

I just think posing with a gun in a school photo is demented.

"It's demented"... I have not seen any irrational behavior due to anger or stress.

A tongue in cheek charity calendar made by adults is a bit different to photos taken of teens in a school setting.

Naturally on VJ when posting a counterpoint context is the first thing to go.

"blah blah"

Yeah. That's exactly what was said, wasn't it.

"I butted in on someone else's convo" (Not uncommon on VJ, so not knocking you for it, just clarifying for the record.

There is chasm of distance between saying that you don't think its a good idea to pose with a gun in a school related photo as if it were a fashion accessory and being against free speech and the right to bear arms.

Again, nothing about the OP or why you are so offended by the photo.

It's how many Americans (at least on VJ) seem approach anything political - if you're not in 100% agreement you are the enemy and must be villified.

It could be that posing with a gun in a school photo is a common thing - at least common enough that people to whom guns are part and parcel of everyday life. Personally, and from my own experience of living in the USA, I've never found that to be the case.

It has been done a lot, not sure if it's enough to be called "common", at least not in recent years. Guns in school used to be the norm, so it follows that pics with them were more normal in the past.

And FWIW, I don't think your time in the US is enough to judge all the regional eccentricities. Or even just a few of them.

The odds are fairly good that most people will agree with most other people on at least one thing.

blah blah

Well you're reaction to the post in question was certainly kneejerk.

As I said, there's nothing about saying you don't agree with using a gun as a fashion accessory for a yearbook photo that justifies the conclusion that they support authoritarian government. That's a complete exaggeration.

Not kneejerk; as per usual, Merle nailed a fact and you don't like it because said fact fits you to a "T".

Perverts.

The FIRST thing you said that might indicate how offensive you find pics with guns in them. Though how you look at kids with guns and see "perverts" is quite beyond me.

This is what was written...

Thinking its a bad idea to pose with guns in a school photo simply doesn't justify the above as a response.

*yawn*

Complete rubbish.

Its perfectly possible to have a reasonable opinion disagreeing with the idea of kids being photographed with guns in a school picture without reaching the conclusion that the person who said it is some sort of Nazi for saying so.

You don't see that because you are not a reasonable person.

That's a delusional opinion. Needless to say, more claptrap that has nothing to do with the topic or anything anyone has said in it.

Some personal attacks going on, nothing of substance about the OP. Again.

That's fair enough.

I just don't think anyone's views on the second amendment have any relevance to whether or not its a good idea to use a gun as a fashion accessory in a school photo. It doesn't seem appropriate IMO.

"It's not appropriate"... still no mention as to why you find pics with guns so offensive.

Why is it not appropriate? What about it offends the sensibilities?

Read the thread.

I did. More than twice.

A quote from a book from 2001. Curiously, who is this 'liberal elite'?

Off topic.

The amazing part is how you do your normal, daily routine of posting a few words here and there that have little or (as in this case) nothing to do with the OP, then expect people to understand you. If you spent a bit more time actually speaking clearly about your thoughts on the topic at hand, instead of sniping at people and belittling anyone with whom you don't see eye to eye, perhaps your contributions would be easier to follow and actually be enjoyed by the good readers here. But don't let me talk you into doing anything you don't want to do.

I did want to know why it bothered you so, but after all this homework you forced upon me, I am honestly too tired to care anymore. Don't bother with a reply, I was just letting you know that I DO pay attention, even when it's not warranted.
