Many proponents of lowering or eliminating the age of consent like yourself, have sought redress of these laws. Their argument however could not support the notion that a 14-year old is mature enough to consent to marriage.

Perfect example of modern PC bullying. In one era, the vast majority of states have 10 year age of consent. In another, people are harassed for even pointing it out.

It is so interesting that in the age of increasing acceptance of gays, lesbians, plural relationships, etc. that the opposite has occurred with youth - the age of consent has steadily been raised as the bar is lowered for everyone else.

I'm pretty positive that's exactly was he's suggesting. I was confused by his initial statement where I thought he was saying we should bring back the good ol days of raping of 10 year olds or that it is not hard/traumatic/painful for 10 years to have sex.

You must be considerate of cultural differences. Until not too long ago, the age of consent in Russia was 14. Culturally or driven by economic forces, it may still be acceptable in that country that an adult male engage in sexual relations with a 14-yo, whereas in the US would be considered statutory rape. From a western point of view it is a sad state of affairs, but not necessarily so in other areas of the globe.

It was right for the times, wasn't it? Sure was. So was marrying girls so young it causes people today to gasp. But Guess what? It's still happening today. The world's youngest grandmother is only 23. Do the math.

And I know several women who lost their virginity at 12 and 13 years of age. It still happens.
