My husband had his medical exam in Toronto for his K-3 a few months ago. Will it be enough to include a copy of the vaccination record for his Adjustment of Status application? What about form I-693? Should it be included?

Many thanks

should be enough, but it really depends on the adjudicator whether or not you'd get an RFE. He doesn't need any additional medical exams or vaccinations, but they sometimes "forget" that, or "misplace" the file and send RFEs. Other people sail through no questions asked, as long as the K3 medical was less than a year before you send in the AOS applications.

RFEs for medicals are easily overcome though IMO (unless they're getting persnickety). We just called the Senator's office and they were able to help us and found out that my file had been "misplaced".

Thanks, Reba. This is one area where the instructions seem unclear. The Guide for K visas lists the I-693 in the checklist for filing for AOS. But, it's not downloadable ... people sometimes mention the supplement I-693a that needs to be filled out by a Civil Surgeon ... no one talks about keeping a copy of the vaccination record from your K-visa medical exam ... what a muddle.

Calling a Senator would be my last resort. Maybe someone could revise the Guide to give us the first resort.

When Joel went to the Civil Surgeon to get his I-693a filled out (he had his vaccination records from his doctor back home), the receptionist made an extra copy for our records before sealing the official one signed by the dr in the envelope. So far we haven't received an RFE on it. Maybe asking for an extra copy might be something to do? We also made an extra copy of the vaccination record from his doctor too, just in case.

Hope that helps some. :)

Thanks, Karen. My husband is entering today on K-3 and has a "Vaccination documentation medical worksheet 2." Is this something to take to another Civil Surgeon in order to transfer the data? Or can it be submitted as is with the I-485?

I used to be smart and then I petitioned for a visa.

i submitted my vaccination worksheet from the medical with my aos application but just to be sure I don't get all the way to the interview and then denied pending new vaccination supplement I just went to a civil surgeon and got the I693A. Cost me $20. On you interview notice for the AOS it states to bring the I693A. My interview is Feb. 13.

Feb. 15/ 07 --- GC approved

All of that stuff goes in that brown envelope from the POE to the district office when you enter the country with your visa. The Guides here and on the USCIS website are unclear because techncially vaccinations are *not* required to be approved for K visas; however, the US consulates in Canada require the records, for whatever reason. Probably because they know for Canadians its free, but once they get to the US it isn't and they're giving us a break.

Other countries do not require one to have vaccinations for a non-immigrant visa, only for immigrant visas and adjustment of status within the US. That is the purpose of all the extra paperwork that is listed in the guides, for those other countries.

Keep an extra copy of the vaccination record that the doctor in Canada writes up at the medical, and send a photocopy of it with the AOS applications. That, along with all the rest of the information in the envelope should (legally) be enough ofr the AOS process, if everything was up to date and complete. As mentioned before, sometimes an adjudicator will "forget" what is required to adjust from a K visa, or the office will "misplace" your medical file. Both of which are easily overcome by a phone call from the Senator's office reminding them of their own rules, with a follow up letter from you in response to any RFE they may send. Why spend the extra money? If you didn't complete all of that for whatever reason in Canada, then yes, you will need to complete it in the US at extra cost to you.

Thank you, Reba for clarifying! It would be nice if you could add a few words to the Guide here.
