Read. I love horror, mystery and fairytale novels. Go to the drive in. Homework, etc. Badminton

wow, that's just so not normal in west texas. most of those communities are 'HS sports communities'. everything revolves around local HS sports. if you get a chance, go check out some local HS sports. even if you don't care for the game, its a great place to meet the locals. there may be a few people like you, just looking for something to do.

True, and I don't think this mindset/attitude is something that is solely in black society, but I do think it is more predominant.

Another part of this mentality I don't understand is people who can cheer their favorite sports player on and wear their jersey, but turn around and say they aren't black enough, or that they've sold out their fellow black people. This just happened last week with Seattle Seahawks QB russell Wilson, and it's been said many times before. I believe the term used is "Cornball Brother", it's been used to describe Robert Griffin 3rd as well.

"This just happened last week with Seattle Seahawks QB russell Wilson, "

Acts of "self-destruction" may be merely metaphorical ("social suicide") or literal (suicide). Generally speaking, self-destructive actions may be deliberate, born of impulse, or developed as a habit. The term however tends to be applied toward self-destructions that are potentially habit-forming or addictive, and are thus potentially fatal.

Self destruction is clearly only a "black" thing.

I know. I need my black card pulled. lol

Charles Barkley is a prime example of black people who so call "make it" and forget everything they went through to get there.

lol. You just made that up as some silly put-down. Code-speak. What do you really mean here? "Forgetting" what, exactly? Anyone who was an athlete can sure tell you. Blood, sweat and tears. I think what you mean is that he isn't "black" enough for you, meaning you are exactly who he is speaking about. Bill Cosby and others too. They condemn your attitude as a big PROBLEM.

It is easy to forget your struggles when you have so many people willing to "accept" you because of your social status and wealth.

Perfect! For ignoring cause and effect. He is wealthy because he was an awesome athlete. You are really going out of your way to ignore what makes him Charles Barkley, which is the irony in your first statement. As if his wealth had no relation to being a top world athlete.

Oh, of course! That would make him responsible for his own success. His decades of hard work. That's why it is so important to you: not wanting to admit his success is the result of extreme hard work.

Athletics were one of the first places where blacks broke through the racism barrier. Boxing for example, Jack Johnson grew up in the 1800's yet became heavyweight champion of the world in the early 1900's - each new white contender fighting him was called the "Great White Hope". lol. Even though it was supposedly illegal for blacks to take the title, the boxing fans wanted to see the greatest fighter on earth fighting the number two fighter on earth.

I really like Jack because he was flamboyant and unapologetic, handsome, dating beautiful white women in a time when racism actually existed, not like your pretend fantasy of today.

I moved this way from Memphis, TN. However, I have never been a sports fanatic. I do like to watch cricket sometimes.

Yes he is.

I'm still looking for it, I posted it here a while ago in response to someone. But to answer your question:

Because it's a double edge sword. If you rise above it and you prove folks wrong, you don't become a beacon for your people. You are now one of "them". The "good" ones. You are the exception, not the rule. You see it here when comments are made like, I wish we had more of you or them, meaning "good" black people. It's almost like your skin tone gets a slight bleach job. You go from being a black guy to a black in skin tone alone guy. You'll hear comments like, he doesn't act black so he's cool. Or if you're a woman, you're cool because you don't act "ghetto".

I'm going to find this quote if it's the last thing I do.

That works both ways. Other black folks start pointing out how you're not "black enough"

Yeah, we covered that before. To do well is to act "white", to struggle is to be "black".

So, are you saying it doesn't exist now? Or is this the incoherent and condescending word play you've come to adopt as a way of talking down to someone?

Thank you for your response. I had decided to ignore that post as it made no sense at all.

I really don't know what his damage is.
