Yay Kiki that seemed easy enough with the civil surgeon! It should be smooth sailing the rest of the way too.

Ummmm 9 more days until Adam comes. I had a nervous breakdown yesterday. They say moving and getting married are two of the most stressful things a person can do, so I'm surprised more people on this board have not spontaneously combusted since that's what the Visa Journey is all about.

Poor Adam has to move his country and then move house with me within the first two weeks. Then we get married....ahhh joy :luv:

All the people on here who said the last two weeks before the UKC gets here are VERY stressful were RIGHT! Adam and I are fighting and we can't talk much since he's vacated his apartment and living at his mum's in Spain, which makes things worse, and well...9 more days!!!

Thank you for your reply Estella...My sweetie (now husband  ) was with me in the UK over Xmas just before I moved over here and I found the whole thing very stressful, not sure why! And I have lived and worked abroad for many years so it wasn't the moving that was worrying me...I think it is just all the changes and uncertainties that are/were approaching. Even now, some days I panic inside myself...I think I will be much more settled/relaxed once I can work and drive again!!! I miss my independence the most, but my sweetie is very supportive and encouraging to me...

Keep strong, and keep the faith.... :star:

Estella and Kiki,

I'm just as worried about all of that transitioning time. You'd think that once you finally get to be together it should all just finally be great but the truth is that you've still got so much further to go beyond actually getting them to legally set foot into the United States. My Andrew is arriving on March 5 over my spring break and I can't wait.....but am definitely stressed. And get this...the poor thing is going to have to live with my parents for the first two months... I'll be about an hours drive away so I can at least go home on weekends to see him but it's still so frustrating. I'm a graduate student though, in the kind of program where they have no stipend and you have to pay full tuition so I can hardly feed just myself let alone a boy that eats a lot too!! Luckily my parents are so sweet and understanding and willing to help.....my Dad just e-mailed Andrew THE SWEETEST letter welcoming him into our family and letting him know that their home is his while we're both trying to get our feet grounded. I'm so lucky to have such great parents...and such a great guy who is actually willing to live with my parents without a single complaint. I suppose it will be good bonding time for them :P And I figure....well, although we still won't be living together straight away, at least I'll have him in the same state!! Yeah, so we only have one week (over my spring break) to move him in, get married, and try to get all the paperwork together to file the AOS/EAD/AP before I head back up for my mid-terms exams!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!! Yeah, crazy.......Weebeansy

Beansy that is A LOT to deal with!!! Wow and then you will have to move again eventually.

That is wonderful that he doesn't mind living with your parents...he just wants to be with you!! I think if Adam had to live with my family, I think he might deport himself!

Although I've noticed a strange phenomenon. My friend married a British man 7 years ago and he went to live with her and her mother. While my friend went to work, her mother literally waited on her husband hand and foot and cooked for him non-stop thought she NEVER did that for her own daughter. To this day she dotes on Gareth more than her daughter!

And I've noticed that since my family met Adam, that if he and I have any disagreement they side with "poor Adam"! There must be something about that British charm!!!

So tell your fiance to prepare to be spoiled :luv:

Well, here I am, in sunny LA! Actually this afternoon is fog bound but hey!

Anyway, the trip over was wonderfully stress free and POE was totally painless and didn't take very long at all.

One very happy and contended new comer to the USA.

One thing re children.

I went to enroll my son at school today. Unfortunately, despite all my best laid plans to have him fully vaccinated and ready to go when I arrived, the TB test that I had done in the UK had no date on it, so was not admissable, and infact they were fairly certain that he would have had to have another one done anyway and also he had to have a vaccine against chicken pox. So, that was an unexpected $105 bill.

The good news is, the walk in clinic I went to were really nice and are open on Sunday to get the TB test read, so he is all set to start at 8.00 am Monday.

That's another thing, it's going to be odd getting used to the new hours, 8.00 to 1.50!

Still, the school looks lovely so fingers crossed he'll be making lots of friends really soon.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Welcome to the US, Purple_Hibiscus! Good luck getting all settled. I'm sure your son will make lots of friends at school. :)

Purple and Euro welcome to America!

Euro I'm sure if you talk to the cats long enough they will talk back!

I have dealt with those GPS things and to be honest, I think they confuse me more than anything. They tell you to make about 5 right turns just to get off an exit ramp on a highway...but they are good for the major roads. Is there anywhere you can walk to, like local shops, until you get your bearings?

I wonder what Adam will do for the first few months, but knowing him he will know the city better than me and make about a million more friends than I've ever had. :D

We got a 'Garmin' GPS and we love it!!! In our business we travel all over the US so we are always in a new Town, and it's awesome! We can find places and stores quickly and get around just like a local.

euro, I can't wait until I can work too - and drive. Do you have your license? I will have to retake a test to get a permanent Virginia license... :crying:

Has your SSN arrived?

In the meantime, I have kept myself busy setting up the house. I sent over a huge container of things - 112 cartons in all! The house is quite big too - 2200 square feet, but I have it all filled up now and it is starting to look real pretty, just like a home! I just wish the summer would hurry up too, it's cold up here in the mountains
