Dear Friends,

Ithas been long time that I didnt log on for a long time, I was very busy about the intreview. I want to share with you my visa interview on Jan 23, 2007 in U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey.

Well... My interview time was on 9.45am but I was at the Embassy one hour before, It was pretty crowded with other people who applied for visas. After two level security check Officer gave me a number and they let me to walk in to the interview hall, Its like a bank, you know there are many seats and you wait for your number to appear at one of those windows. I was pretty excited, I waited for almost two hours, during that time, I watched other people's interviews, they were mostly students and visitors to US but I must say mostlt they had refused. Around 11:40am my number appeared, I had interview in English(If you wish you can have your interview in Turkish). Officer asked me first Where have you met to your fiancee? How often you talk to your fiancee? I answered all questions clear and understanding way. Officer mostly focused and ask questions about my Fiancee's financial matters. She asked for W2, 1040, I-134. Then she said my fiancee's adjusted gross income is not enough:( the she gave me a green form and said ''You have two options, you can have a co-sponsor or instead of a new sponsor, my fiancee's 1040 and W2 2006 showing adjusted gross income at least 16.500'' I was confused and asked to officer ''Did I get approved or get denied'' Officer replied ''Actually you are not denied but your fiancee must meet finacial requirements '' I was so sad. Now we are planning to send my fiancee's 1040 and W2 for the year 2006. We dont want to ask my fiancee's dad for to get me there my fiancee wants to this with her possibilities. We want to try first to use 1040 and W2 for 2006 option, I wonder If We fail this option then will Embassy deny me or will they ask for co-sponsor?

by the way, interview isnt scary thing, just be self-confident, honest, calm then you will be ok

I wish good luck all fellows

Thanks for reading my post

Does your fiance's 1040 and W2(s) for 2006 show gross income of at least $16,500? If not, I wouldn't bother submitting them without a joint sponsor.

Jenn3539 thank you for your repy.

My Fiancee's adjusted gross income is 15.791. I hope Embassy wont deny because of 709 dollar difference.

It is very likely they will. You really need a co-sponser. Better safe than sorry, after such a long road behind you!

I agree. They may even deny if his income were $16,499. I would go ahead and get the joint sponsor. Good luck to you!

Let me give you another example -

Police certificate required for period spent abroad (if for more than one year). Fiancee went to Japan two separate times for 6 months each for a total aggregate time of 371 days. Certainly they won't deny based on just a few days....

YES THEY DID....

YMMV

That is the one question I have not really been able to get a definite answer. Is it line 22 or line 37 on your 1040? Both amounts are different. I cannot find a number to contact USCIS to personally ask whether it is "Total Income" or "Adjusted Gross Income". I am self-employed and to complete I-134, I need to know what the correct answer is. People on here say line 22. Unless, I can actually find the true answer, I am bewlidered like you which one to use. :o

Line 22 of 1040 is what they desire.

Yes, that is what they look at.

However, when I submitted the I-864 for my husband's adjustment of status here in the U.S., my line 22 was not sufficient due to my foreign-earned income exclusion. I pointed out in a cover letter that my W2's showed my actual income, and that seemed to be good enough for them. I don't know if this will fly at the consulate or not.

I am nervous about this same situation. My husband will be going to Ankara for his interview on March 27th

and I received email today from consulate saying they will need my 1040 and W2s from 2005 tax year.

That year, I was laid off and received unemployment compensation.

Plus, I filed 1040EZ form not the long-form 1040. My total wages was about $14,500 with unemployment income of $6500, giving me a total gross income of $21,000. Which will they use as my total income? The $14,500 or $21,000???

Also, why are they requesting this information again? We sent my tax transcripts and employment letter (which shows I make well over the poverty level now) along with all the documents that Ankara requested.

This is making me so nervous!
