I-485/I-130 processing time check: Service Center or Field Office?

Hi all,

my current status for I-485 is "Testing and Interview", I-130 "Initial Review". I have not received any notice about a case transfer, should that be any relevant.

My case was received in first week of September.

when I want to check processing times for my pending concurrent I-485/I-130, which one do I check? The Nebraska Service Center, who has been handling my case, or my local field office? There is a big time difference between those hence I'm asking.

Service Center processing times are I-485: 4 months, I-130: 5 months.

Local Office: I-485: March 2014. No mentioning of I-130.

Does the local office only do the interview, or are they also involved in working on the case beforehand? As there is no mentioning of I-130 processing times for the field office.

I've been reading that the interview date depends also on the backlog of the local office - and I'm not sure if, once status changed to "Testing and Interview", it all depends on the field office?

Also, my EAD/AP was approved super fast, 35 days. Any chance this could mean that my interview will also happen rather soon?

thanks so much for your help.

The I-130 and I-485 will be approve together after the interview not individually. The dates you are looking at for the I-130 are for different types of cases that do not apply to you. Your case file is probably being transferred from NBC to your local field office and you will not get any updates as to when they receive it. The field office does not work on your case before hand; when the immigration officer opens your file at the interview it will be the first time that he/she sees it. Your appointment date for your interview will depend on the local field office's work load. The website will update with a message that states that an appointment notice has been mailed to you and it will include the date it was mailed out to you.

thanks for your insight!

about notices mailed from the USCIS: i haven't received any notices since the NOA1. there was no notice mailed that my EAD or AP was approved or in production, only the status changed online - saying that a notice was mailed to me, and then I received the card. no notice in the mail until now however.

I neither recieved a notice that my status has changed to "testing and interview" - as i read happened to other VJers.

anyone experienced that as well?

Up to this point you should have received 4 NOAs stating that USCIS received each one of your main forms, a NOA for your ASC appointment, 2 NOAs stating that your EAD and AP were approved (these are printed on a more official looking paper), and any RFEs that you may have received. USCIS does not mail a notice for each and every update that is posted on its website. Soon you should be receiving your interview appointment NOA which will list the time, place, and date of your interview appointment.

If you didn't receive a NOA stating that your EAD and AP were approved but you received the card without any issues it could be that the approving agent decided not to send them out. I would keep an eye on the website. It will update when your appointment notice has been mailed out to you and it will state the date it was mailed. You should receive this notice around a week after the website updates. If you don't receive it I would contact USCIS ASAP. I personally received the approval letter for my EAD after my card had already arrived.
