Crump also said one of the reasons the family and protesters were opposed to a grand jury proceeding was because it gives authorities too much control over what the public would learn about the case, as evidenced by the leaks.

“The family wanted a jury trial that was transparent, not one done in secrecy, not something that they believe is an attempt to sweep their son’s death under the rug,” he said.

The initial report validates Wilson’s claims that the struggle began when Brown reached into the police SUV and attempted to wrest control of the officer’s gun, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.Medical examiner Dr. Michael Graham found that the testimony given that Brown had his hands up and was retreating from Wilson was incorrect. His findings concluded that Brown was shot twice at close-range, and examinations of the SUV indicate that those shots occurred inside the vehicle.

Graham said the examination indicated a shot traveled from the tip of Brown’s right thumb toward his wrist. The official report notes an absence of stippling, powder burns around a wound that indicate a shot fired at relatively short range.

Dr. Judy Melinek, a forensic pathologist in San Francisco, said the autopsy “supports the fact that this guy is reaching for the gun, if he has gunpowder particulate material in the wound.” She added, “If he has his hand near the gun when it goes off, he’s going for the officer’s gun.”

Both the official and independent autopsies backed up Wilson’s testimony that the struggle began in the car.

“Someone got an injury that tore off skin and left it on the car,” Graham said. “That fits with everything else that came out. There’s blood in the car, now skin on the car, that shows something happened right there.”

Shots fired outside the car corroborate Wilson’s account of the shooting, that Brown had been approaching or charging him as he shot.

[Melinek] said Brown was facing Wilson when Brown took a shot to the forehead, two shots to the chest and a shot to the upper right arm. The wound to the top of Brown’s head would indicate he was falling forward or in a lunging position toward the shooter; the shot was instantly fatal.

And that chant we’re all now familiar with, “Hands up, don’t shoot” – findings indicate that could not have been possible.

A sixth shot that hit the forearm traveled from the back of the arm to the inner arm, which means Brown’s palms could not have been facing Wilson, as some witnesses have said, Melinek said. I was skeptical at first, because we all know Police do stupid stuff to people regardless of color. White people get shot frequenlty too , it's just that we don't get front page news coverage and people don't burn cities down.

However it is becoming clear that Wilson's account is fairly accurate. However that is not slowing the rhetoric and calls for prosecution. I would love to say I am surprised, but I am not.

If it went down like it is starting to look like it went down, yes the man deserved to die.
