So ... why exactly are we waiting in line a year (or more) for our loved ones to get visas? :ranting:

Obama To Allow 100,000 Haitians To Immigrate To U.S. Without Visas

The ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee took the Obama administration to task Friday for its “irresponsible” plan to allow as many as 100,000 Haitians to immigrate to the U.S. without a visa.

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa said the administration’s Haitian Family Reunification Parole Program — which will allow thousands of Haitians awaiting a U.S. visa to enter the country and legally apply for work permits — is “an irresponsible overreach of the executive branch’s authority.”

“Which countries are next on President Obama’s list?” Mr. Grassley said. “Will there by medical screenings before entry? Will work permits be granted automatically? How will this affect American workers?”

I'm trying to puzzle out the legality of my situation. The wife & kids are still abroad, waiting for NVC to get around to processing their forms. A thought occurred: Why can't they fly over under the Visa Waiver Program (applies in their country) and upon arrival, file for Adjustment of Status? I found this USCIS memo from 2013:

The only hitch that I can see is possibly misrepresenting the nature of their visit at POE. If they don't say "immigration" when asked their purpose of visit, then it's visa fraud, and could potentially lead to a years-long ban.

Anyone have any insight into this?

Good. The Haitians have suffered enormously and deserve the support of the US administration. It will have no affect on anyone who is undergoing the immigration process.

That was also said re: 5000,000 DACA folks, who were unceremoniously plunked at the head of the line.

As has been shown, I do have a spouse. How that's anyone's business, or germane to the topic raised is a mystery to me. <_<

What line? Visa immigration is a different process to refugee status. One has no effect on the other.

As to the other subject, nothing to do with me,please quote those that said it, not me.

Do you have any evidence of this? Or is this just your opinion? I suspect it's the latter.

i do hope 100,000 Haitian 'new workers' displace 100,000 illegal aliens for the working bits.

That's my thought, however malformed.

Had a brief discussion with UB about this topic already but I had no idea he didn't have a husband or wife.

I don't know if he has a spouse or not. He gets a fair amount of hassle about being a new account of on old poster. That's why it helps to fill in a timeline.

Maybe they'll all move to Vermont.

I never thought he was you know who, but seems like a lot of people do.
