Hi guys, we have a question about the affidavit of support requirements, my fiancée just started with her new job this March of this year, she makes 2k/month but the problem is if ur going to calculate her annual income starting March, it will not meet the annual requirement for the affidavit. But prior to that she worked for another company for almost 10 years, but she stopped working from January-feb of this year. But she has stocks and savings too, were just worrying about not meeting the annual income requirement for the affidavit

$2k a month = $24k current annual income. It is enough. You calculate current income by taking how much you earn an hour, times how many hours you work a week. Then multiply the weekly amount by 52 weeks to get the annual amount. It is not based on what you made so far this year.

Thanks @kaydeecee @biaobiao thanks for the response :) but is the amount showing on the poverty guideline is after or before tax? Coz she makes 2k before taxes or 1500/ month after taxes. We're worrying that we will get denied coz of her income :(

It's the current income they care about - that being said, you need to be able to demonstrate that this income will likely continue (eg. being a full time employee). Of course people can lose jobs, get laid off, etc, but if it is a limited contract, for example, that could be a problem.

@pianist27 yeah we don't have problem with that coz my fiancée is a full time employee and she can provide documentation from her current employer. Thanks for responding :)

It is gross income, before taxes.

Hi guys,

Ive been reading your responses on this thread and I can actually relate too. Im a prospective college student and never filed taxes. My parents claim me under theirs. (I have a cosponsor whom meets requirements. However, I recently got a job which pays me enough to meet the annual income requirement. Is it possible that i can use my income for affidavit even if I dont have tax returns and just started? Can I provide other proof and would it work? Ive been in for 1 month.

The CO might accept the current income with the explanation that you were a student and not working before. Use a letter from your employer and most recent pay stubs. However, sometimes if the job is too new, they will still want to see a co-sponsor. Take the co-sponsor's documentation with you just in case it is needed.
