It sounds like the USCIS just sits their arses on cases before they get approve for some reason they're not prepared to explain to anyone They need a overhaul of this entire system. It makes no sense that it takes almost 6 months to approve a document.

Congrats! Case number can take up to 42 days after receipt at NVC, but some have been faster lately. Check out the March NVC filers thread.

DKNC, I was looking at the timeline on your signature. What follows after the DS-160 has been completed? Are you looking at another ~60 days for the interview? It looks like you paid fees and mailed stuff as fast as you could, and still, you are on the NVC phase for 3 months already. Another 2 months ahead?

Do you know the criteria as after how many days the service request is available?

You probably have to be beyond the normal processing time which is 5 months since NOA1 for NCS

It looks like you paid fees and mailed stuff as fast as you could, and still, you are on the NVC phase for 3 months already. Another 2 months ahead?

Since we mailed in our docs already, there is nothing after the DS-160. We're just waiting for the case to be completed. The 60+ days at the end of my signature is for the review of documents, which began on February 3rd - day 37 today (not that I'm counting or anything ). If NVC doesn't issue a checklist, I am hopeful for a case complete at the start of April. With the Swedish embassy, that will result in an interview in mid May (or June if we miss the scheduling cutoff). So yes, another couple of months at best until we have a visa in hand. We did our best to keep the process moving. We could have mailed the document package off a few days earlier, and we lost time due to a snow storm delaying the delivery of the documents. Nothing to be done about that now, but those delays could cost us an extra month.

Use your time wisely while waiting for the I-130 approval. Gather all the needed documents and fill out the necessary AOS form(s). Also, read Saylin's NVC wiki again and again so that you know what to expect with the NVC process. Always check your documents over very carefully before mailing off to NVC. A mistake (resulting in a checklist) will cost 2 months in review time plus the time it takes to respond.

Hi Maria.

You should have gotten an NOA2 by email when your petition was approved (and by snail mail about a week later). Since your case has been sent to the DoS (NVC), that means you were approved within the last month. Congratulations! It can take up to 42 days to get a case number assigned at NVC. If you have the patience for it, you can try calling NVC in a couple of weeks to see if/when they received your case from USCIS. Otherwise, you should (in theory) get an email Welcome Letter from NVC when the case number is assigned (if you submitted your email with the I 130).

"I would like to make an inquiry in regards to an I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, petition was sent on xx/xx/2014, on xx/xx/2014 I received USCIS Acceptance Confirmation Email. I believe that my case is now out of the normal processing time of 5 months. I have not received any update to my case since xx/xx/2014. I would appreciate any update/information regards to my case.
