I thought exactly what he thought, but I figured for the sake of $12, I'd rather have mine. Better safe than sorry!

And that bit is exactly *my* take on it - I will see if I can persuade him to get a copy even though he does think it is 'silly' and that they 'don't need it' - better than fretting about it and being a bag of nerves all through my interview 'cos I'm convinced they're going to ask for the one thing I don't have!

That said... I'd be interested to hear if other people with divorced USC fiance(e)s did/didn't take the marriage certificate to the interview... anyone? I've searched & searched on here but can't find anything to convince me either way!

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

Agreed. Have the originals of your divorce decree(s). Also I've heard they want the marriage certificate - not sure why, exactly, but I got mine just in case. :)

I didn't provide mine.... no RFE.

Our rfe was for not including my marriage certificate from my first marriage, I had my divorce decree in there but not my marriage certificate guess just depends on is working on your case.

That is SO strange! I have never heard of people including their marriage certificates in their petition (at least not for a K1). I suppose I may still get an RFE - I guess it depends on who looks at my case. Or maybe its if you kept your married name from the first time? That's about the only sense it would make to me to include it. Then again, 'sense' and 'USCIS' in the same sentence is sort of a laugh. :lol:

OMG! I'm so worried now! I dont have the marriage certificate! It took 6 months to get the divorce from my 'ex-husband' in Tanzania! He basically 'tricked' me into getting married when I was 18 - which was 5 years ago! I never saw him again - but because of this process decided to contact him and find out about it - he then took ALOT of money from me and got the divorce over there and took forever to send me the decree. What the hell am i going to do if they ask for the certificate? I cant go to Tanzania! And I never changed my name - I was never even known as Mrs, married or anything - I'e always had the same name and been single!

I included a copy of my marriage certificate to indicate the name change. I had to pay my 10 dollars as I had burned it in effigy by then. (Just joking....kinda.)

-12/15/06 Mailed off I-129F

-12/19/06 NOA1 via email

-01/05/07 NOA2 via email

-01/13/07 NVC notice via snail mail

-01/25/07 Packet 3 arrives.

-02/22/07 Packet 3 is mailed.

-03/02/07 Medical

-03/13/07 Packet 4 arrives.

-03/16-24/07 Honey visits.

-04/02/07 Interview(Approved)

-04/10/07 Visa arrives.

I am the USC and I included a copy of all marriage license/certificates---David's and mine, as well as all divorce decrees. I sent them all with the K-1 packet and gave David the originals in case they were requested at the K-1 interview.

I was of the same thought...better safe than sorry!!! It was also a way for the change of name to be tracked and supported "other names used" information provided at the time.

This really seems like one of those "better safe than sorry" items! If you can't get it from Tanzania, hopefully they will at least send you something to the effect so that you can have SOMETHING documented with you at the interview. Good Luck Tam!
