2nd shot in vacc series. Pay fee again?

My husband had his vaccination supplement done by a civil surgeon (from the USCIS list) a month ago. We paid $180 for just the shots, no physical was needed. We went back today to finish up the series and were told it would cost another $145 for those shots. Is that typical? I’ve traveled abroad before and I’ve gotten shots in a series and you pay for the SERIES, not the number of shots right? I hope someone can enlighten me here. We left the clinic and said we would come back after I research this some more. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Wow you have been scammed.... I had all my shots done at a local clinic and just took the form from the clinic to the civil surgeon to transfer on to the report.... the local clinic here in Boston charged me $15.00 in total for all six shots I needed...

I had to have the whole medical as I did not come on a K1 and the whole thing cost $120.00 for medical, blood work, chest x-ray and the paperwork...

You were totally ripped off. Did you discuss the fees upfront? You might want to have a chat with the doctor. They need to follow certain guidelines and you can send complaints about them if they are not following them.

Im so sorry that they scammed you like that...

We had also troubles with finding a Dr who was willing to do the vaccination supplement without trying to trick and fool us... We had one Dr who wanted us to pay over 300 dollars! and another who was saying that according to their "own policy" they have to do the whole medical exam. if there has not been one within 6 moths. One Dr also said that they cannot do only the supplement thing separately from the whole medical exam. because of their policy. All this was just #######-talk...

When we had our interview two days ago in OKC, my husband told the officer there about this problem, and we mentioned that there are others aswell being in this kind of a problem (where doctors are taking advantage of immigrants and their situation) according to the discussions we have seen on different forums online. She was very happy to know that these problems are documented online, and she went right after our interview to another officer who is actually right now working with this problem - and told her what we told her. This was very nice to see - and it was nice, because she took us with her when she went there to report what we had said, so that we could see and hear that she took that problem into action.

So - it is so good that these problems are documented here!

This clinic didn't require a physical, that's why we decided to go there. Other clinics that I called were charging around $200-$300 but that included the physical too so I can understand the price. But we're being charged $325 ($180 + $145) to complete the vaccination series alone. When I first called, I was told that the vaccination supplement would cost $180 which fit within the range of what most people were paying. But now the clinic is telling us that $180 only covered the first two shots. So I'm wondering if it was my fault for not asking the right question at the beginning? Is it a misunderstanding? Is it up to clinics to set their own fees? I'm trying to find something offical online that describes these regulations. If anyone finds something, please let me know.

The thing with the vaccines is that you can often get them free, covered by insurance at your doctor (if you have it), or dor a low cost through public health or insurance. Even here, had I needed a vaccine, the civil surgeon was charging $15.00-$30.00/ vaccination.

I am wondering if there is a fee schedule for the vaccines, I don't think that they are supposed to make a huge profit off of them. I'd look into it further. Maybe call your local department of health and see if anyone there can give you any guidence. The civil surgeon I went to see, told me that there was a fee schedule and maximum fees that could be charged for various parts of the physical.

Complaints about a civil surgeon can be directed to the CDC and/or USCIS/DHS.

I just paid $270 for medical exam + the cost of x-ray ( dont know how much yet ) .......all of the civil surgeon around here charge big money for it. ( $270 is the cheapest one) None of them provide insurance coverage!!!

I had no choices but getting this done. I still have weird feelings about this "civil surgeon medical exam" ! :(

Besides I didnt even see the doctor.....a recent grad young nurse gave me 3 shots and tranferred my shot record. I didnt see any doctors the whole time........is it funny?

It's not a scam. You chose to get the vaccinations from them. That's the price they charge and the way they bill it. Nothing says you had to get the actual vaccinations from the civil surgeon. It's your responsibility to understand the fees or ask about them up front. You had other options that apparently were not investigated.

we got kind of scammed also. My wife was told that she needed 2 more shots. TB, and MMR. Luckily since she is covered by my military insurance, i was able to get the MMR through them, but they wouldnt give TB cuz she just got it back in November, and its a once every 10 year shot. So we had to pay the civil surgeon 60 for the shot and 77 for the paper.

The whole entire AOS process is a money making scam if you ask me. Total BS. After all the visa process, you should just mail in a certified birth certificate, and be done with it. But no......
