So now from Texas to Ohio and who knows where from there. Despite what CDC and the hospitals are saying, hazmat suits are not commonly available in hospitals. And this issue of how to dispose of the hazardous wastes from the Ebola patients is still being worked out. Big problems and as usual our government is only starting to work on it when it is too late.

This concerns me on a number of levels, but mainly because of the complete stupidity of the guy not wearing protective clothing around people who are transporting a patient with a serious, infectious condition that has a 70% mortality rate.

I saw on the news a hospital ran an unannounced drill and used a man from africa who claimed he just came from africa and had a list of "problems" to mimic ebola . Things did not go so well like nurses being in the room without goggles . and that was for just being in the early stages of treating this person.

Can someone explain to me why the admin is so adamant about not restricting visas and commercial air travel to the US from the West African Region? I know we have contractors for moving air freight in and out of battle zones and troops all over the world. I see no reason why they could not be used for transporting aid workers, doctors, supplies and equipment in and out of that region of Africa until we have time to bring our resources and medical personnel up to speed on all the safe procedures needed to treat infected patients stateside before allowing people from those affected countries roam all over the USA and other Western countries actually causing this to become a global pandemic instead or a regional epidemic. I also have heard that the military plans to quarantine the returning soldiers before allowing them to return to the USA! Why is it okay to quarantine military personnel returning from that region just because they might have been exposed to the Ebola virus, but allow citizens of the affected areas to travel freely to the USA just by filling out a form and getting a thermal scan?

The staff at the Dallas hospital are learning their safety protocols on the fly. I heard an interview with a medical professional this afternoon, whose opinion was that the two nurses became infected when removing their protective equipment, because the post-exposure decontamination measures weren't enough.

This virus has been known about for long enough. The correct protocols should be put in place the moment an infected subject is identified. Hospitals should never be left to work out their safety protocols as they go. The danger in which this puts hospital staff is unacceptable.

The most dangerous time when dealing with any pathogen or exposure. Even worse if it's at the end of a shift.

If you look at the video in post #18 you'll see roughly how the staff was dressing the first two days the patient was there. After it was confirmed that he had ebola they switched to hazmat suits.

The staff there have been badly let down, both by the hospital and the CDC.

52,000 people died of the flu virus last year in the US, no one blinks an eye and life goes on as normal. One person dies of Ebola and the entire country is crazy with paranoia. Makes perfect sense.

Something in this range will die of the flu this year, too. And next. And the year after. Not only does nobody panic about it, many don't even bother to get the flu shot which significantly decreases one's odds of becoming a victim of the disease. No worries on the disease that kills tens of thousands and one is likely to be exposed to but panic about a disease that one person died from, 4 recovered from thus far in the US and at least one more appears to be on the path of recovery from.
