US Police Certificate

Hello,

Quick question - my fiance and I have received our NOA2 and the visa interview is next Monday (Oct. 20). I believe we've gathered all of the docs required based on the checklists I've found, but one thing I can't find is whether or not my fiance will need a police certificate from USA.

The reason I ask is because she spent exactly a year here on an internship, and the instructions say that if the applicant had ever spent more than a year abroad in any country, they would need a police record. Does this apply for her time in the US too? Anyone have any experience with this? I'd appreciate any insight anyone could offer.

Thanks,

Eoghan

The USA doesn't issue police reports.

The USA doesn't issue police reports.

Gotcha. Is that because we're applying for a US Visa? I'd assume they'd do some sort of check in the initial petition, which would make sense that they don't issue them, but I guess if no one's ever had an issue with this then we needn't bother stressing it.

I'm not sure anyone REALLY knows how the background check process works when applying for a visa, but the bottom line is that you don't need a certificate from the US. In fact, my consulate's instructions spell it out specifically, but maybe yours isn't as clear.

Can you update your timeline to show the date of your NOA2 and interview? That will help other users on this site.

Hello! I studied for 3 yrs then worked for 1 year in US before. I asked US embassy in Malaysia and I was told that I don't have to get a police report from US but need one from Malaysia coz I have been staying here since little. Maybe you can double check with embassy. :)
