Yes, that's really key. Once you have Ebola symptoms you have a 60% chance of death. Rabies, 100%.

depends on which variety. zaire is about 90%

Indeed, it is bizarre. But that's what happens when they get the 0'bola scare on top of the ODS they've long been inflicted with.

It is you (and Val) that "injected" Obama into this thread, as you do so often. So... who are the ones really obsessed with Obama??

No cure for flu either, you've just got to ride it out. And it's airborne

It kills tens of thousands a year, too. Every year.

Lower fatality rate but much higher infectivity. Flu could conceivably overwhelm a countrys health system.

You won't see an ebola epidemic in modern developed nations because we have better health infrastructure than places like liberia , Nigeria or Sierra Leone.

Contrast that with Spanish flu which took hold at a time when there wasn't an organised health system... Millions died.

All very true. Highly overlooked is that influenza is an even greater danger for people with coronary disease or stroke risk.
People are still resisting getting vaccinated against flu:
(skim the statistics and read the Discussion)
Not much had changed since the early 2000s:
In the first article, an unbelievable statistic is that a mere 44% of the respondents believed that "influenza can trigger heart attacks, stroke, or sudden death."
Everyone who can get vaccinated, should.

So given a choice between kissing an Ebola patient on the lips or getting bit by a dog known to have rabies, Is there anyone here dumb enough to kiss the Ebola patient on the lips?

Hopefully we can follow this pertinent and relevant question up with another:

Would you rather have a lobotomy or have your genitalia removed?

Yes, that's really key. Once you have Ebola symptoms you have a 60% chance of death. Rabies, 100%.

a couple months ago my boss brought in a box of kittens and the runt, her eyes were practically jumping out of her head she was so hungry. i thought she would die if i didn't nurse her back to health so i took her home. after we'd been home for a couple hours, she stopped moving. she was awake and eating like normal but she couldn't move her limbs or body. i had to carry her everywhere. saturday morning i took her to the vet because i'd never seen a cat go from mobile to paralyzed in a matter of hours before. the vet gave me a paper bag full of rubber gloves and told me to call him as soon as she died so we could put her on ice, she probably had rabies.now i have a dog and three other cats - all potentially exposed to rabies. vet's office didn't seem concerned. he did mention that my son, husband and i would need shots if the kitten died.

so anyway i didn't really take the vet seriously, i didn't think the kitten had rabies (i didn't see how she could have contracted it) and it turned out she didn't. she recovered in a few days and is a completely normal kitten now. but i'm looking back thinking, the vet just let me turn around and walk out with a kitten that could have had rabies? if a human is exposed to rabies, the shots are to keep rabies from getting full blown or what - if it's 100% fatal?

why would he want to be a liberal? :hehe:

everyone wants to be a cool kid.
