Stop doubting, Thomas. I would have stayed, it would have been the intelligent thing to do. Care could have been administered sooner, and I would not have risked infecting my family. Fear of dying aside, why bring it to your loved ones and potentially murder them?

meh. it's easy to say you'd stay, another to do. you believe that this man knowingly risked infecting his family, i don't really know if i believe that's what happened. i mean, dude is dead so there's no way to know for sure but denial is a powerful thing. if he didn't feel sick until he got here, i'd be inclined to believe he didn't acknowledge the risk - not that he knowingly put himself before his family. he got sick helping a pregnant woman, doesn't really sound like he was a heartless #######.

meh, you don't know me, you'll just have to trust that I'd do the right thing.

As for his knowing... he LIED, saying he had no contact with anyone infected with ebola, and subsequently traveled while infected. Sure, he didn't KNOW he was infected, but he had to have worried about it. Any rational person would. Even if he was trying to help the infected woman, props for that, but still, he was a risk and he rolled those dice, and has now infected at least one other person.

Had he known, I suspect he would have insisted not to be sent home from the hospital the first time around. Makes no sense to assume that he came to the US for a better chance of treatment and survival and then just turn around and go home when the hospital sends him on his way. If he came for the treatment, I'd say he would have put more effort towards getting that treatment. He didn't. That to me indicates that he was either unaware of or fully in denial of his exposure and contraction of the disease.

you don't have to take it personally, i just don't buy it. dying isn't 'the right thing', the right thing is getting better.

of course, and rational people's brains sometimes overload and rest upon denial - especially in situations involving fatal illness.

it's unfortunate but those who work in hospitals, aide workers, etc are more likely to get infected because they are working with the sick. if you want to be real petty about it, the hospital should have kept him there the first time he went - they didn't.

The hospital announced Sunday that its emergency department had stopped until further notice accepting patients brought by ambulance “because of limitations in staffed capacity,” a step known as “diversion.”

“While we are on diversion we are also using this time to further expand the margin of safety by triple-checking our full compliance with updated CDC guidelines,” the hospital said. “We are also continuing to monitor all staff who had some relation to Mr. Duncan’s care even if they are not assumed to be at significant risk of infection.”

We divert patients several times a year. Either too many patients or not enough staff. Sometimes they are scheduled. We have one in December for equipment installation.

If it's related to the Ebola case, possibly due to people quitting. Could also be due to the impending lawsuit. Or maybe they all caught Ebola. Who knows?

Obviously he lied about his exposure and put others at risk. That doesn't mean he had any prescient knowledge of what was about to happen.

It's not hard to believe this guy paid a lot of money for a plane ticket, spent a lot of time and got lucky getting a travel visa and felt healthy. A plane ticket costs several months wages in a 3rd world country. Not surprising someone with no apparent symptoms gets on a plane to go on vacation, People do it all the time.

One never wishes for a loss of life. I still maintain that we need to control our visa situation until this passes. If we had this nurse would have never been in this situation .PC needs to be upheld at all costs

How many hospitals "close until further notice" their emergency departments. What about that gunshot fellow that had to travel another 20 minutes because this hospital has closed and other hospitals are slammed with the overload. This is only affecting a few people correct. Just the ones that were exposed. ... Then we will never know about the heart attack that could have been saved if he had decided to go to this hospital... but because of ebola situation told the emt take him to a hospital farther away. .. No way am I going to that ebola hell. ...

And on a final note Has this been closed because it has not been contained ....

Just tell your self that... He knew he was exposed and traveled to the US to get treatment. His only chance at saving his life. And now we deal with this situation. How many other folks will make the same decision. ?

If he was seeking treatment, he made a poor choice to tell the ER he was not exposed to Ebola. Cause that was all he needed to do. Instead of ibuprofen, he would have had a whole ICU to himself.

dude - first, are you even reading dakine10's posts? second..do you live in america, near a large city, a large city with muliple hospitals? people in desperate need of emergency care are routinely sent to hospitals that are further away for treatment for a host of reasons that have zero to do with ebola.

If protocol is being followed, a large number of the ER staff could still be either in quarantine or observation. Logistically, you don't want a doctor seeing 200 patients a day for 3 weeks and then testing positive for Ebola.

So let me get this straight: He made this whole trip to the US to get treatment. Lied his way onto the airplane, through customs and immigration and all that. But he doesn't even put up so much as an argument when he is sent home from the hospital with some antibiotics instead of this treatment that he was allegedly traveling all this way for? Do you know how insane that sounds?

Now you just start making sense. That's not fair. You'll confuse lib and those other numbnuts.

All kidding aside, I do enjoy your over the top hyperbole. You might wish to consider applying for a position of assistant screenwriter at Lifetime. They can always use new ideas for their Lifetime Original Movies.
