Can my fiance take half of my belongings over the border without me?

I haven't had my interview yet but I'm a person that likes to plan ahead and have things lined up and ready so that when the time comes I'm prepared for anything and everything. :D

That being said, I'm not sure how to go about moving my furniture and things to his place in the states. My fiance and I want to opt out of the u-haul route. A trailer would have been sufficient with his SUV to fit all of my belongings BUT he doesn't have a trailer hitch. So we'd have to buy a hitch and with the rental fees that would cost us about $400-500.

OK, now I don't plan on moving until Christmas. (long story short, I want to spend it with my family, since it will be the last one in a while :( ) Seeing as the US Thanksgiving is coming up in November and my fiance has that week off (and it will be after my interview, so I will know by then if I have been approved) we were thinking ... for $300 in gas there and back (cheaper than the u-haul route) we could pack up his car and he could take half of my things back home with him then. And then we'd also have a chance to spend a few days together ... which is a nice bonus. :) But that also means we don't need to haul a trailer through the snow in December... And in December we he takes me home with him :) We could pack the rest of my things in the back of the SUV without a problem.

HOWEVER.... this means he will be taking my things over the border with him without me. I know when I move, I will need a list of everything. ... SO ... I guess I'm wondering if they will stop him and deny him from taking those things over with him? ... Oh god, I don't know. I need to be present, don't I? Or they need to come in AFTER me? Is this plan possible? :/
