DP World to hand U.S. ports to 'United States entity'

Dubai Ports World has agreed to turn over all of its operations at U.S. ports to a United States entity, said Sen. John Warner, reading a statement from DP World. He said the reason is "to preserve" the strong relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

Many of the dockworkers at the ports mentioned belong to the Longshoreman's Union, long known to have connections to the mafia (Genovese and Gambino "families").

Perhaps, but the Mafia isn't likely to try to smuggle in anything apart from drugs/guns/alcohol/tobacco. They don't want to destroy their best customer.

This just hasn't been W's year. Did the 62-2 vote scare them or something? Can you imagine if Bush vetod a bill that originally had support of 62-2? Yikes.

Is it possible that Bush may have read up on Babur before his South Asia visit? That may be where he got the DPW ports management idea in the first place.

According to legend: After Babur had defeated (and killed) Ibrahim Lodi at Panipat in 1526, two survivors of Lodi's army Gul Hassan (a Pathan) and Rakesh Gupta (a Hindu) decided they should avenge Lodi by killing Babur. They attempted this several times, and Babur eventually had the pair arrested and brought to him. He then told them "you've shown plenty of dedication to killing me; however, that is NOT going to bring back Lodi rule as my newly acquired kingdom/empire will pass to my son Humayun; so, I'll make you my bodyguards--and give you a chance to turn your dedication in the opposite direction". The two protected Babur from several other assasination attempts over the next 4 years (Babur died of an unknown severe illness in 1530).
