Just a little advice, do not cross your fingers for "good luck" in Vietnam. Because it means something very different in Vietnam, and it is an easy way to shock and offend people instantly. Basically holding up the middle finger represents the male body part, and crossing the fingers represents the female -- and they convey a similar message!

I just asked the wife about this. She says it's street slang for use in places of questionable reputation. Locals use it when shopping for an erotic physical encounter as a discreet non verbal means of asking if they provide said services and requesting male/female options.

The wife told me she did a double take while visiting the US when I flipped off a livery car driver in an NYC toll plaza and remembered it meant something else. She thought for a second I wanted relations with the cab driver and started laughing about it once she realized I was just mad. I never knew why she laughing until now; I just remember being annoyed at her in a moment of traffic rage.

So which one of your fiancées relatives did you proposition? Come on share the fun.
