I never heard a K-1 visa holder gets denied when is trying to enter the US. Though A K-1 visa is under non-immigrant visa but also is bear an immigrant visa. Which means no reason the holder gets denied while entering the US because that's one of the purpose of K-1 visa, gets married in the US within 90 days.

I heard of one case, years ago , but the reason was valid, and even though I can't remember the case exactly it was nothing a normal person would have happen ( criminal act I think )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

It means the odds are 99 against 1. Pretty small chance the OP's fiancé will get denied.

It has happened but like Nigeria said it was a valid reason. Basically Montreal and the border didn't agree on whether the they needed a waiver for something or not. the POE wanted the waiver.

The answer to the immigration officer's answer: "What is the purpose of your trip to the US?" should be precisely corresponding the kind of the visa. If it is K-1, then the answer is - "Getting married!" In case the fiance starts telling about his/her plans of work and studying, the denial is possible.

This crossed my mind. If entering the US at the Canadian border would be more difficult than just arriving by plane at a US airport? I'm guessing it shouldn't be but I notice things work a bit differently at the NY/Canadian border.

I actually called the border at Niagara Falls in May to ask them re: this exact issue (sometimes flights from UK to Toronto are WAAAY cheaper than flying here to Rochester so I wanted to keep options open). They said it isn't a big deal at all.... they may pull you over and check out what you have in your car, etc., but it's the same as coming in through an airport.

Depends on if they start saying specific words, or find guns or explosives or other contraband.

Is your fiancé flying into YYZ? If so, why not drive up to Toronto and pick up your fiance and cross over with them? I crossed over in Lewiston, NY with a huge cube van full of my stuff when moving here and when they asked what the purpose of my trip was, I told them it was to activate my K1 Visa. I was with immigration for 45 mins while they activated/processed all my paperwork. Easy peasy!

Liza, nice to see someone living so close to me going thru the immigration process as well.

I may consider flying into Canada then crossing the border IF I get my visa. The only issue is I would have to take megabus or grey hound bus to New York. I wouldn't want to hold up the bus for an hour.

My fiance is in Rochester. Great to see others from that area as well.

Can you take the bus to Erie and have your fiancé pick you up on the Canadian side of the bridge where the bus stops? Then you can cross over together...processing your K1 shouldn't take that long. They are pretty quick there from what I have heard.

It's nice to see that we have a small group here from the Western NY area. I am originally from Toronto but love Rochester....great city and they have a great restaurant there called Trata that is in the old armory.

Well my fiance doesn't drive so that's the issue but I am thinking way ahead here. When I get to that bridge I will cross it.

Yes, Rochester is nice. I'm hoping to get there by June 2015! *fingers crossed*

With the visa? Chances are pretty much nil as long as you're not married and don't have a ban.

Without the visa chances are small for a Canadian unless they're unemployed etc.
